## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Hipages Lead Extractor

Turn Australia’s hipages.com.au public tradie directory into structured business leads. Search by **service category** and **postcode** (or paste find-page URLs), then export names, phones, suburbs, ratings, recommendations, and profile links.

This Actor scrapes **public business listings** — not private job leads posted by homeowners.

### Features

- **120+ categories** — plumbers, electricians, builders, air conditioning, and more
- **Postcode targeting** — Australian 4-digit postcodes (e.g. `2213`)
- **Optional find URLs** — `https://hipages.com.au/find/{category}/{state}/{suburb}`
- **Sorting** — star rating, times hired, or recommendation count
- **Phone reveal** — when a listing advertises a phone, resolve the full number via the public reveal endpoint
- **Proxy support** — residential AU proxies recommended for production

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `category` | string | `Air Conditioning` | Service category |
| `postcode` | integer | `2213` | Australian postcode |
| `sortBy` | string | `Rating` | `Rating` · `Total Hired` · `Total Recommendations` |
| `startUrls` | array | — | Optional find-page URLs |
| `maxResults` | integer | `50` | Cap (site soft-limit ~110) |
| `revealPhone` | boolean | `true` | Resolve advertised phone numbers |
| `requestDelayMs` | integer | `300` | Delay between requests |
| `proxyConfiguration` | object | — | Apify Proxy (AU residential recommended) |

#### Example

```json
{
  "category": "Air Conditioning",
  "postcode": 2213,
  "sortBy": "Total Hired",
  "maxResults": 20
}
```

### Output

One Dataset item per business, including fields such as:

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| `name` | Business name |
| `phone` / `mobile` | Contact numbers when available |
| `email` | Email when present on the listing |
| `serviceArea` / `suburb` | Advertised service suburb |
| `categories` | Search category |
| `hasLicense` / `hasValidAbn` | Trust flags |
| `starRating` | Rating, hired count, rating count |
| `totalRecommendations` | Recommendation total |
| `recommendations` | Sample recommendation text |
| `highlights` / `headline` | Profile highlights |
| `profilePageFullUrl` | Public profile URL |

#### Example item

```json
{
  "name": "Frost Tech",
  "hasLicense": 1,
  "hasValidAbn": 1,
  "serviceArea": "EAST HILLS",
  "totalRecommendations": 4,
  "phone": "0425848003",
  "mobile": "0425848003",
  "headline": "Professional local Air Conditioning business with over a decades experience.",
  "highlights": [
    "Quality Workmanship Guaranteed",
    "Commercial & Residential",
    "Competitive Quotes"
  ],
  "starRating": {
    "rating": 5,
    "totalHired": 4,
    "totalRatings": 3
  },
  "profilePageFullUrl": "https://hipages.com.au/connect/frosttech2"
}
```

### Tips

- Prefer **residential proxies with country AU** when running from outside Australia.
- Some profiles hide email or phone; empty fields mean the public listing did not expose them.
- Maximum useful page depth is about **110 businesses** per search.

### Support

Open an issue on the Actor page for bugs or feature requests.
