## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Amazon KDP Sub-Niche Finder — Discover & Score Low-Competition Niches

Enter **one seed topic** and get back the sub-niches you *didn't know existed* —
each auto-expanded from Amazon's own search suggestions and scored 0–100 for
how easy it is to rank. Competitors only score the keyword list you already
have; this finds the keyword angles first, then scores them.

### The difference: discovery, not just scoring

| You give it | You get back |
| --- | --- |
| `nurse planner` | `nurse planner 2026-2027`, `nurse planner with hourly schedule`, … |
| `adhd workbook` | `adhd workbook for women`, `adhd workbook for teens`, … |

Every seed expands into Amazon's real autocomplete suggestions (what shoppers
actually type), then each sub-niche is scraped live and scored. The sub-angles
are where the open lanes are — the broad seed is usually saturated, but its
long-tail children aren't.

### Opportunity score (0–100)

- 🟢 **70–100 opportunity** — low competition, few reviews, room to rank
- 🟡 **40–69 moderate** — some competition
- 🔴 **0–39 saturated** — entrenched best-sellers, hard to break in

The score penalizes review saturation (avg reviews per book), best-seller
presence (any book with 1,000+ reviews), crowded results, high prices, and
very-established ratings. Prices are forced to USD regardless of IP location.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `seeds` | array\[string] | `["nurse planner 2026"]` | Topics to expand + analyze |
| `expansionMode` | choice | `suggestions` | suggestions / alphabet / modifiers / deep |
| `marketplace` | choice | `us` | amazon.com, .co.uk, .ca, .com.au, .de, .fr, .it, .es, .in |
| `maxKeywordsPerSeed` | integer | `50` | Keywords to expand per seed |
| `maxCompetitionKeywords` | integer | `10` | Keywords to run competition analysis on |
| `maxResultsPerKeyword` | integer | `20` | Books scraped per keyword |

### Output

Dataset rows (two types):

```json
{ "type": "keyword", "keyword": "nurse planner 2026-2027", "seed": "nurse planner", "rank": 1 }
```

```json
{
  "type": "niche",
  "keyword": "nurse planner 2026-2027",
  "verdict": "moderate",
  "score": 67,
  "avgReviews": 38,
  "avgPrice": 16.8,
  "avgRating": 4.6,
  "books": [
    { "asin": "B0...", "title": "Nurse Planner 2026", "rating": 4.8, "reviews": 42, "price": 14.99 }
  ]
}
```

Plus `NICHE_ANALYSIS` in the key-value store summarizing all verdicts.

### Pricing

Pay-per-event, free to discover:

- **Keyword expansion is free** — the expanded sub-niche list costs nothing.
- **`niche-analysis` — $0.02 per scored niche** + `apify-actor-start` ($0.05, auto).

A run that scores 3 sub-niches costs **$0.11**; 10 sub-niches costs **$0.25** —
in line with KDP niche tools on the store, against $79–199 for Publisher
Rocket / KDSPY.

### Notes

- No browser key or Amazon account needed. Prices forced to USD.
- Amazon does not publish search volume — competition is measured from live
  results (review counts, price, rating), not a modelled number.
- Review counts may be null when Amazon lazy-renders them; the score uses
  whatever is available.
- Amazon terms govern automated access — use lawfully.

# Actor input Schema

## `seeds` (type: `array`):

Book topics to expand and analyze, e.g. \["nurse planner", "adhd workbook", "gratitude journal"].

## `expansionMode` (type: `string`):

suggestions = Amazon's top suggestions per seed. alphabet = seed + a-z. modifiers = seed + shopping modifiers. deep = both.

## `marketplace` (type: `string`):

Which country's Amazon to read from.

## `maxKeywordsPerSeed` (type: `integer`):

Stop expanding a seed after this many unique keywords.

## `maxCompetitionKeywords` (type: `integer`):

The most popular keywords get a full competition analysis (the charged step). Keep low for fast/cheap runs.

## `maxResultsPerKeyword` (type: `integer`):

How many search-result books to scrape per keyword for the competition score.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "seeds": [
    "nurse planner 2026",
    "adhd workbook for adults"
  ],
  "expansionMode": "suggestions",
  "marketplace": "us",
  "maxKeywordsPerSeed": 50,
  "maxCompetitionKeywords": 10,
  "maxResultsPerKeyword": 20
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Keyword rows and niche-analysis rows (verdict, score, avg reviews/price/rating, top books).

## `summary` (type: `string`):

All analyzed niches with verdict and score, in the key-value store.
