## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Amazon New Releases Scout

Get the **top-ranked new releases** in any Amazon category — the freshest, fastest-moving products on the marketplace right now.

### Why

New releases are where opportunity shows up first: fresh listings, thin competition, early pricing gaps. This actor returns the category's new-releases leaderboard — rank, title, price, rating — in one cheap fetch per category. No browser, no API keys.

Each result: `rank`, `ASIN`, `title`, `price (USD)`, `rating`, `review count`, `url`, `category`.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `categories` | string\[] | required | Category slug(s), e.g. `["electronics", "lawn-garden"]` or `["all"]` for everything |
| `minPrice` | int | 0 | Minimum price USD (0 = none) |
| `maxPrice` | int | 0 | Maximum price USD (0 = none) |
| `topN` | int | 20 | Top-ranked releases per category (max 30) |

Common category slugs: `electronics`, `toys-and-games`, `books`, `lawn-garden`, `kitchen`, `beauty`, `sporting-goods`, `tools`, `pet-supplies`, `videogames`, `fashion`, `automotive`. Use `all` for the main New Releases page (mixed categories).

### Output

One dataset item per release:

```json
{
  "rank": 1,
  "asin": "B0GWFN7Y8T",
  "title": "Pocket Hose Ballistic 50 FT Expandable Garden Hose",
  "price": 47.49,
  "rating": 4.4,
  "reviewCount": 2862,
  "url": "https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GWFN7Y8T",
  "category": "Patio, Lawn & Garden"
}
```

### Pricing

- **$0.002 per release** (pay-per-event) = **$2.00 per 1,000 releases**
- `apify-actor-start`: $0.05 covers fixed startup cost

Free-plan users get one category (top 20 releases) free per run.

### Notes

- Rank = position in Amazon's official new-releases list for that category (1 = top).
- `price` is `null` for products Amazon shows as "See options" (no single list price).
- `rating` / `reviewCount` are `null` for brand-new products with no ratings yet.
- Runs on a plain `fetch` (no headless browser) — fast and cheap; Amazon may occasionally throttle, the actor retries automatically.
