## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

For more details, see Apify documentation as [Markdown index](https://docs.apify.com/llms.txt) and [Markdown full-text](https://docs.apify.com/llms-full.txt).

# README

## 🏭 Alibaba Scraper — Products, Suppliers, Prices & Reviews

Scrape Alibaba.com products, verified supplier dossiers and buyer reviews from **$2.00 per 1,000 products** (from **$1.40 / 1,000** on paid plans). Five scrapers in one Actor: keyword search, full product detail, supplier company profile, supplier catalog and reviews. **No login, no API key, no code, no proxies to configure.**

Most Alibaba tools give you a listing card. This one also opens the product page for the complete **quantity price ladder** and **SKU matrix**, opens the supplier's storefront for the **registered address, transaction volume, reorder rate and factory audit data**, and pulls **individual buyer reviews** — and it bills each of those separately, so you only pay for the depth you ask for.

***

### ⚡ What does this Alibaba Scraper do?

Alibaba has no public product API — the official Open Platform is restricted to approved partners and does not expose supplier audit data or buyer reviews to ordinary buyers. This Actor is the practical **unofficial Alibaba API**: you send a keyword or a URL, you get structured JSON.

| Mode (`scrapeType`) | You give it | You get back |
|---|---|---|
| `search` | keywords, e.g. `led strip light` | every offer card: title, price range, MOQ, images, ratings, supplier trust signals |
| `product` | product URLs or bare product IDs | the full offer: price ladder, SKU matrix, complete spec sheet, lead times, packaging |
| `supplier` | a storefront URL | the company dossier: address, revenue, staff, certifications, factory audit |
| `supplierProducts` | a storefront URL | every product listed by that supplier |
| `reviews` | a product or supplier URL | individual buyer reviews + the full star-rating breakdown |

Switch on the enrichment options and `search` results come back **fully loaded** — each product carrying its own detail page, its supplier's verified profile and its reviews, in a single record.

***

### 🎯 Why use this scraper?

- ✅ **Five scrapers in one.** Products, details, suppliers, supplier catalogs and reviews — most competitors sell these as separate Actors.
- ✅ **Up to 230 fields per product**, grouped into 24 logical blocks (price, order, media, specifications, variants, shipping, supplier, ratings, reviews, stats, origin…).
- ✅ **52 fields on a supplier**, including the registered operational address and factory audit data that listing-only scrapers never see.
- ✅ **The real quantity price ladder** — every tier with its min/max quantity, not just "from $X".
- ✅ **The full SKU matrix** — every colour/size/voltage combination with its SKU ID (we have seen 210 variants on a single offer).
- ✅ **Reviews with the 1–5 star histogram** and per-dimension scores (product quality, shipping, supplier service).
- ✅ **Pay only for the depth you use.** Details, supplier profiles and reviews are separate billable events; a plain search stays cheap.
- ✅ **Shared work is billed once.** A supplier profile and its reviews are fetched once and reused for every product of that supplier.
- ✅ **A hard result cap.** `maxItems` stops the run at your number, so a run can never overspend.
- ✅ **Results stream in one by one** — rows appear as they are found, and stopping a run early keeps everything collected so far.
- ✅ **English output in your chosen currency**, regardless of where the run executes.
- ✅ **No Alibaba account, no cookies, no login.** Public data only.

#### How it compares

| | Alibaba Open Platform | Typical Alibaba scraper | This Actor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Access | Approved partners only | Public | Public |
| Price ladder per quantity | Limited | Usually "from $X" only | ✅ Every tier |
| SKU / variant matrix | ✗ | Rarely | ✅ Full matrix |
| Supplier audit data | ✗ | Usually name + country + gold years | ✅ Address, revenue, reorder rate, staff, certifications |
| Individual buyer reviews | ✗ | Usually a separate Actor | ✅ Built in, with histogram |
| Supplier catalog | ✗ | Usually a separate Actor | ✅ Built in |
| Billing granularity | n/a | One flat price per row | ✅ Per event — pay for what you asked for |

### 🚀 How to scrape Alibaba step by step

1. Click **Try for free** — new Apify accounts include **$5 in free credits every month**.
2. Pick **What to scrape**: product search, product detail, supplier profile, supplier catalog or reviews.
3. Type your keywords (e.g. `led strip light`) or paste Alibaba URLs.
4. Set **Maximum results** — this is a hard cap, the run stops there.
5. Optionally switch on **full product details**, **supplier company profile** and **buyer reviews**.
6. Click **Start** and watch rows appear in the dataset as they are found.
7. Export as **JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML**, or pull the data from the API.

***

### 💰 How to control what a run costs

Every option you enable opens more pages per result, so cost tracks the depth you ask for:

- A **plain search** is by far the cheapest way to collect a lot of products.
- **Full product details** are the biggest single cost — switch them on only when you need price ladders, SKUs and spec sheets.
- **Supplier profiles and reviews are fetched once per supplier** and reused for all of their products. Scraping 200 products from 20 suppliers costs 20 supplier events, not 200.
- Nothing is charged for a page that returned no data.
- Every run logs how much traffic it used, in total and per record.

***

### 🪜 Price ladders vs variant ranges

Alibaba prices offers in two different ways, and both are returned:

- **`quantity_tiers`** — the classic wholesale ladder. `tiers[]` gives you every step, e.g. 100–299 pcs at $9.50, 300–499 at $9.30, 500+ at $9.00.
- **`variant_range`** — the price varies by SKU rather than by quantity, so you get `min` / `max` across the variants instead of a ladder.

The `price.priceModel` field tells you which one applies, so your pipeline never has to guess why `tiers` is empty.

### 🤖 Use with AI agents (MCP)

This Actor works as a tool for LLM agents through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com). Point Claude, ChatGPT or your own agent at it and ask in plain language:

> "Find 50 LED strip light suppliers on Alibaba with a minimum order under 100 pieces, pull their company profiles, and rank them by on-time delivery rate and reorder rate."

The agent fills in the input, runs the Actor and reads the dataset back.

### ⚖️ Is it legal to scrape Alibaba?

Scraping publicly available data is generally legal, and this Actor only collects pages any visitor can open without logging in — product listings, public supplier storefronts and published reviews. It does not access private data, and no Alibaba account is used.

Supplier company details and reviewer names are business and personal data, so handle them in line with GDPR, CCPA and other applicable regulations, and respect Alibaba's terms of service. If you plan to store or publish personal data, take legal advice first.

For a fuller picture, read Apify's guide: [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/)

### ❓ FAQ

#### Does Alibaba have a public API?

Not for ordinary buyers. Alibaba's Open Platform is limited to approved partners and does not expose supplier audit data or buyer reviews. This Actor is the practical alternative.

#### Do I need an Alibaba account or login?

No. Everything collected is public data visible to any visitor. No account, no cookies, no session.

#### Do I need to bring my own proxies?

No. Residential proxies are configured by default and included in the price. You can supply your own on the Custom proxies tab if you prefer.

#### How many results can I get per keyword?

Search paginates deeply — thousands of offers per keyword. Use `maxItems` to decide where to stop.

#### Will I be charged for URLs that return nothing?

No. Events are charged only when data is actually delivered. A blocked or empty page costs you nothing.

#### Why do some products have a price ladder and others only a range?

Alibaba prices offers either by order quantity (a tier ladder) or per variant (a span across SKUs). Both are returned, and `price.priceModel` tells you which applies.

#### Why do some records have less supplier detail than others?

Not every supplier publishes a full company profile. Verified Gold suppliers expose the richest data; smaller storefronts publish less. Whatever a supplier publishes is captured, and missing fields are simply absent rather than null.

#### Am I charged twice if two products share a supplier?

No. A supplier's profile and reviews are fetched once and reused for all of their products, and billed once.

#### Can I export to CSV or Excel?

Yes — JSON, CSV, Excel, XML and HTML. For spreadsheets set `outputFormat` to `flat` so nested groups become plain columns.

#### Can I control exactly how much a run costs?

Yes. `maxItems` is a hard cap enforced on every record written, so the run stops at your number and cannot overspend.

#### Does it return prices in my currency?

Yes. Pick one of ten currencies; Alibaba converts server-side. Titles and specifications always come back in English.

#### Can I scrape all products from one supplier?

Yes — use `supplierProducts` with the storefront URL, or `supplier` with **Also list the supplier's products** enabled.

#### Does it scrape RFQ buying requests or do reverse image search?

No. This Actor covers products, suppliers and reviews. RFQ pages sit behind an Alibaba login, so they are out of scope.

#### Can I filter by price, MOQ or verified suppliers in the input?

Not in the input — filtering is done on the output, where you have the real MOQ, tier prices and verification fields to filter on. That is usually more precise than Alibaba's own facets.

#### How fresh is the data?

Every record is scraped live at run time and stamped with `scrapedAt`. Nothing is served from a cache.

#### My run returned fewer results than I asked for. Why?

Either the keyword has fewer offers than your `maxItems`, or some pages were unavailable during the run. The log lists what was skipped, and you are only charged for what was delivered.

# Actor input Schema

## `scrapeType` (type: `string`):

Choose the kind of data to collect. 'Product search' runs keyword searches and returns offer cards. 'Product detail' takes product URLs or IDs and returns the full record with the price ladder, variants and specifications. 'Supplier profile' returns a company record. 'Supplier catalog' lists every product of a storefront. 'Reviews' returns buyer reviews and rating breakdowns.

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

Keywords to search on Alibaba.com, one per line - for example 'led strip light' or 'cnc machining service'. Used when 'What to scrape' is set to product search.

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Alibaba URLs to scrape directly: product pages (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/...), supplier storefronts (https://company.en.alibaba.com), or supplier catalogs (.../productlist.html). Plain numeric product IDs are accepted too.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Hard cap on how many records this run writes to the dataset - the run stops the moment it is reached, so you never pay for more results than you asked for. Results are written one by one as they are ready, so stopping a run early keeps everything collected so far.

## `includeProductDetail` (type: `boolean`):

For every search result, also open the product page to add the complete quantity price ladder, SKU variants, full specification list, lead times, package weight and dimensions. Slower, but far richer records.

## `includeSupplierProfile` (type: `boolean`):

Attach verified company data to each product: registered address, transaction value, orders in the last 6 months, reorder rate, on-time delivery rate, staff count, certifications and main export markets. Profiles are fetched once per supplier and reused.

## `includeReviews` (type: `boolean`):

Attach buyer reviews and the full star-rating breakdown (per-dimension scores and the 1-5 histogram) to each product record.

## `maxReviewsPerItem` (type: `integer`):

How many individual reviews to attach to each product when 'Add buyer reviews' is enabled, and how many to return in the Reviews scrape type.

## `includeSupplierProducts` (type: `boolean`):

When scraping supplier profiles, additionally return every product listed on that storefront as separate records.

## `outputFormat` (type: `string`):

'Structured' keeps related fields grouped (price, supplier, shipping, media) which reads best as JSON. 'Flat' collapses everything into single-level columns, which is easier to open in Excel or Google Sheets.

## `currency` (type: `string`):

Currency used for all prices in the results. Alibaba converts prices server-side to this currency.

## `shipToCountry` (type: `string`):

Destination country used for shipping estimates and regional availability. Results are always returned in English.

## `maxRetries` (type: `integer`):

How many times to retry a failed page before moving on. Supplier storefronts sometimes need several attempts; raise this if you see records being skipped, lower it if you prefer failing fast.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Proxy used for all requests. Residential proxies are strongly recommended and are the default; you can also supply your own proxies on the Custom proxies tab.
