## Pricing

from $0.80 / 1,000 domain checkeds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk Domain Availability Checker (RDAP) - Name x TLD

Find which domains are free in seconds. Type your brand ideas, pick the extensions, and get **available / registered** for every combination. For taken domains, you also get the **registrar and expiry date**.

- **Name x TLD generator.** Enter `acme` and `my new brand` with `.com .io .ai .fr`, and the Actor checks all 8 combinations. Spaces become hyphens and accents are removed (`café` becomes `cafe`).
- **Official registry data.** Each domain is checked against its registry's RDAP server, the official successor of WHOIS, through the IANA bootstrap file. It covers 1,200+ TLDs, including .com, .net, .org, .io, .co, .ai, .app, .dev, .fr, .de, .uk, .ch, .nl, .us, .ca and .au. TLDs without a public RDAP server (.eu, .it, .es, .be...) fall back to a DNS check.
- **Know when a taken domain expires.** Registrar, creation date, expiry date and days to expiry come in the same row. This helps you plan a backorder or contact the owner through the registrar.
- **No result, no charge.** Invalid inputs and registry errors are returned but not billed.

### What can I use it for?

- **Naming a startup, product or app:** test 50 names x 10 extensions in one run.
- **Brand protection:** check which variants of your brand are still free to register.
- **Domain investing:** list the expiry dates of the names you are watching.
- **AI agents:** give an agent a `check_domain` tool through the Apify MCP server (see below).

### Input

```json
{
    "names": ["acme", "my new brand"],
    "tlds": ["com", "io", "ai", "fr"],
    "domains": ["example.org"],
    "includeRegistrationDetails": true
}
```

You can use `names` + `tlds`, `domains`, or both. Duplicates are removed. If `tlds` is empty, the default list is used: com, net, org, io, co, ai, app, dev, fr, de, uk.

### Output

One row per domain. Example from a real run:

```json
[
    { "domain": "apify.io", "available": false, "status": "registered", "method": "rdap", "registrar": "Cloudflare, Inc", "createdAt": "2021-04-20T14:38:37.053Z", "expiresAt": "2028-04-20T14:38:37.053Z", "daysToExpiry": 558, "statuses": ["client transfer prohibited"] },
    { "domain": "zz-quiet-otter-7731.com", "available": true, "status": "available", "method": "rdap" },
    { "domain": "zz-quiet-otter-7731.eu", "available": null, "status": "likely_available", "method": "dns" }
]
```

| `status` | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `available` | The registry has no record of the domain (RDAP). |
| `registered` | The domain is taken. With RDAP, registrar and dates are included. |
| `likely_available` | The TLD has no public RDAP server, and the domain does not exist in DNS. Confirm with a registrar before you rely on it. |
| `unknown` | The registry did not answer (see `error`). Not billed. |
| `invalid` | The input is not a valid domain. Not billed. |

`available: true` means the registry has no registration for the name. Premium or reserved names can still be refused or priced higher by registrars.

### Pricing

**$0.001 per domain checked ($1 per 1,000 domains)**, plus Apify's small run-start fee. There is no subscription. Invalid inputs and failed lookups are free.

### Speed and fair use

Registry RDAP terms forbid high-volume automated querying, except when it is reasonably needed to register domain names. This Actor sends **at most one request per second to each registry**. Different TLDs are checked in parallel, so 10 names x 6 extensions take about 10 seconds. A long list on a single TLD runs at about 3,600 domains per hour.

Registrant contacts are never read or returned: the output contains no personal data.

### Use it from AI agents (MCP)

Add `domain-availability-checker` to the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com) in your MCP client (Claude, Cursor, VS Code...). Your agent can then check names while brainstorming.

### Integrations

Apify API, schedules, webhooks, Make, Zapier, n8n. Export as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML.

### FAQ

**Is RDAP the same as WHOIS?** Yes. RDAP is the standardized JSON replacement for WHOIS, run by the same registries.

**Need DNS, SPF, DMARC or SSL data for taken domains?** Use [WHOIS & DNS Domain Lookup](https://apify.com/propped_cloak/whois-dns-domain-lookup), which runs on the same engine.

# Actor input Schema

## `names` (type: `array`):

Brand or project names without extension, one per line. Each name is combined with every TLD below ("my brand" becomes my-brand.com, my-brand.io...).

## `tlds` (type: `array`):

Extensions to combine with the names. Leave empty for: com, net, org, io, co, ai, app, dev, fr, de, uk.

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Optional: exact domains to check (example.com), one per line. Combined with the generated names.

## `includeRegistrationDetails` (type: `boolean`):

For registered domains, also return the registrar, creation date, expiry date and days to expiry.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "names": [
    "acme",
    "my new brand"
  ],
  "tlds": [
    "com",
    "io",
    "ai",
    "fr"
  ],
  "includeRegistrationDetails": true
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per domain: available, registered, likely available or unknown, with the registrar and expiry date when registered.

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
