## Pricing

from $0.40 / 1,000 feed items

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## RSS & Atom Feed Reader - Any Feed or Website to JSON

Read **hundreds of RSS and Atom feeds** in one run and get clean, uniform items: title, link, publication date, summary, categories and podcast audio files. Don't know the feed URL? **Give the website**: its feed is found automatically.

- **Every format, one shape.** RSS 2.0, RSS 1.0 (RDF) and Atom become the same fields, with ISO dates, absolute links and plain-text summaries (HTML removed).
- **Feed discovery.** For a website URL, the feed is found from the page's `<link rel="alternate">` tag, then the usual paths (`/feed`, `/rss.xml`, `/atom.xml`...).
- **Podcasts.** Episode audio files come in `enclosure` (URL, type, size). Large feeds of several MB are fine.
- **Only what's new.** Use `since` to get only the items published after a date, and schedule the Actor to monitor feeds every hour or every day.
- **Cheap.** **$0.50 per 1,000 items.** Unreachable sites and websites without a feed are not charged.

### What can I use it for?

- **News and competitor monitoring:** follow the blogs, newsrooms and changelogs of your market in one dataset, then send new items to Slack, email or a Google Sheet.
- **Content aggregation:** feed a newsletter, a news app or a dashboard.
- **AI pipelines:** collect new articles every day and summarize or classify them with an LLM. Use [Web Page to Markdown](https://apify.com/propped_cloak/web-page-to-markdown) to get the full text of each link.
- **Podcast catalogs:** list the episodes and audio files of podcast feeds.

### Input

```json
{
    "feeds": ["https://xkcd.com/atom.xml", "blog.apify.com", "https://github.blog/feed/"],
    "maxItemsPerFeed": 50,
    "since": "2026-10-01",
    "includeContent": false
}
```

### Output

One row per feed item. Example from a real run (summary shortened):

```json
{
    "input": "https://github.blog/feed/",
    "feedUrl": "https://github.blog/feed/",
    "feedTitle": "The GitHub Blog",
    "feedLink": "https://github.blog/",
    "feedLanguage": "en-US",
    "title": "Hack the World: Why hackathons are still the best place to learn to build",
    "link": "https://github.blog/developer-skills/career-growth/hack-the-world-why-hackathons-are-still-the-best-place-to-learn-to-build/",
    "id": "https://github.blog/?p=99381",
    "published": "2026-10-09T16:00:00.000Z",
    "updated": null,
    "summary": "The barriers to building software have collapsed. Today, anyone can build. Hackathons are a great place to start learning. The post Hack the World: Why hackatho…",
    "categories": ["Career growth", "Developer skills", "career development", "hackathon"],
    "enclosure": null,
    "error": null,
    "checkedAt": "2026-10-12T14:11:36.020Z"
}
```

With `includeContent: true`, a `content` field adds the full text when the feed provides it.

### Pricing

**$0.0005 per feed item ($0.50 per 1,000 items)** plus Apify's small run-start fee. No subscription, lower prices on higher Apify plans. Invalid URLs, unreachable sites and websites without a feed are free. Use `maxItemsPerFeed` and `since` to control the cost.

### Good to know

- Author names are not returned: the output describes the content, not the people.
- Feeds are fetched once per run, with at most 4 requests per second per site.
- Internal network addresses are refused.

### Use it from AI agents (MCP)

Add `rss-feed-reader` to the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com) in your MCP client (Claude, Cursor, VS Code...).

### Integrations

Apify API, schedules, webhooks, Make, Zapier, n8n, Slack, Google Sheets. Export as JSON, CSV, Excel, HTML or RSS.

### FAQ

**Can I monitor only new items?** Yes: schedule the Actor and set `since` to yesterday's date, or compare `id` values with your previous run.

# Actor input Schema

## `feeds` (type: `array`):

RSS or Atom feed URLs, or website URLs: the feed of a website is found from its <link rel="alternate"> tag or the usual paths (/feed, /rss.xml...). Duplicates are removed.

## `maxItemsPerFeed` (type: `integer`):

Feeds list newest items first: only the first ones are returned and charged.

## `since` (type: `string`):

Optional date (YYYY-MM-DD). Older items are skipped and not charged. Items without a date are kept.

## `includeContent` (type: `boolean`):

Also return the full article text when the feed provides it (content:encoded or Atom content), as plain text.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "feeds": [
    "https://xkcd.com/atom.xml",
    "blog.apify.com",
    "https://github.blog/feed/"
  ],
  "maxItemsPerFeed": 50,
  "includeContent": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per feed item: feed title, item title, link, publication date, summary, categories, podcast enclosure.
