## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## EPA SmartWay Verified Tires, Aerodynamic Devices & Idle Reduction Technologies

Search, verify and export the **US EPA SmartWay Technology Program verified lists** as clean JSON, CSV or Excel:

| List | Listings (approx.) | What's in it |
|---|---|---|
| Low rolling resistance (LRR) new & retread tires | 900+ brand/axle listings (thousands of tire models) | Brand, new vs. retread, steer/drive/trailer axle, tire models |
| Trailer aerodynamic devices | 110 | Device, fuel-savings category (1%, 3%, 5%, 9% Elite), device type (skirt, tail, gap reducer...), test method |
| Idle reduction technologies: trucks & school buses | 80+ | APUs, generator sets, fuel operated heaters, battery A/C, thermal storage, electrified parking |
| Idle reduction technologies: locomotives | 19 | AESS, shore connection, APUs, heaters |

Each record includes the page's "last updated" date and a link to the source page.

### Why use it?

- **Tire dealers, retreaders & fleets**: confirm that a tire model is SmartWay-verified LRR for its axle position. California's CARB Tractor-Trailer Greenhouse Gas regulation requires SmartWay-verified LRR tires on covered tractors and 53-foot box trailers.
- **E-commerce & marketplaces**: add an accurate "SmartWay verified" badge to tire product pages, or check supplier claims in bulk.
- **Trailer manufacturers & aero device sellers**: see competing devices and their fuel-savings tiers.
- **Lead generation & market research**: list every LRR tire brand (many are import brands) or every idle reduction vendor.
- **Monitoring**: schedule it with `only_new` to catch newly verified products.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `lists` | Any of `lrr_tires`, `aerodynamic_devices`, `idle_reduction_trucks`, `idle_reduction_locomotives` (empty = all) |
| `models` | Models to verify. Exact matching ignores case, spaces, dashes and bracketed size notes. Use `*` as a wildcard. Misses return `smartwayVerified: false`. |
| `brands` | Brand or company name (contains) |
| `axle_positions` | `Steer`, `Drive`, `Trailer` (tires) |
| `tire_type` | `all`, `new` or `retread` |
| `keywords` | Free-text filter |
| `one_row_per_model` | One row per tire model instead of one per brand/axle listing |
| `only_new`, `report_removed`, `state_store_name` | Monitor mode |
| `max_items` | Max records (0 = no limit) |

#### Examples

Verify tire models:

```json
{ "lists": ["lrr_tires"], "models": ["XDA Energy", "X Line Energy Z", "*Ecopia*"] }
```

All verified trailer tires, one row per model:

```json
{ "lists": ["lrr_tires"], "axle_positions": ["Trailer"], "one_row_per_model": true }
```

Aero devices rated 5% or better:

```json
{ "lists": ["aerodynamic_devices"], "keywords": ["5%", "9%"] }
```

### Output

```json
{
  "list": "lrr_tires",
  "brand": "Michelin",
  "technologyType": "Tire",
  "isRetread": false,
  "axlePosition": "Drive",
  "model": "X Line Energy Z (Size 315/80R22.5 Load Range L only)",
  "modelBase": "X Line Energy Z",
  "modelRestriction": "Size 315/80R22.5 Load Range L only",
  "smartwayVerified": true,
  "listUpdated": "2026-04-15",
  "sourceUrl": "https://www.epa.gov/verified-diesel-tech/smartway-verified-list-low-rolling-resistance-lrr-new-and-retread-tire"
}
```

Aerodynamic device records include `deviceName`, `fuelSavingsCategory`, `fuelSavingsPercent`, `isEliteCombination`, `deviceTypes`, `testingMethod` and `testProtocol`. Idle reduction records include `technologyType`, `technologyDescription`, `applicableFor`, `company` and `models`.

### Pricing

Pay per result: you are charged only for records in the dataset. No start fee.

### Notes

- Data comes from EPA's public SmartWay verified technology pages and updates whenever EPA updates them. Some approvals apply only to certain sizes or load ranges (see `modelRestriction`), so always check the size restriction.
- This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by the US EPA. "SmartWay" is an EPA program name.

# Actor input Schema

## `lists` (type: `array`):

Which SmartWay verified lists to load. Leave empty for all four.

## `models` (type: `array`):

Tire / device / product model names to verify, e.g. 'XDA Energy'. Exact match ignores case, spaces, dashes and size notes in brackets; use \* as wildcard ('*Ecopia*'). Unmatched names return a 'not found' row.

## `brands` (type: `array`):

e.g. 'Michelin', 'Bridgestone', 'Carrier'.

## `axle_positions` (type: `array`):

LRR tires only.

## `tire_type` (type: `string`):

LRR tires only: new tires, retreads or both.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Free text across brand, company, device name, models and technology type.

## `one_row_per_model` (type: `boolean`):

Split listings with several models into one row per model (always on for model lookups).

## `output_not_found` (type: `boolean`):

For exact model lookups, return a row for each model that is not on the lists.

## `only_new` (type: `boolean`):

Return only listings that are new since the previous run (first run saves a baseline).

## `report_removed` (type: `boolean`):

In monitor mode, also output listings that were removed.

## `state_store_name` (type: `string`):

Named key-value store for the monitor baseline.

## `max_items` (type: `integer`):

Maximum records to output (0 = no limit). You pay per record.
