## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## EPA Certified Wood Stove & Pellet Stove Database Search

Search, export and monitor the official **US EPA Certified Wood Heater Database**: about 1,600 wood stoves, pellet stoves, hydronic heaters (outdoor wood boilers) and forced-air furnaces. Each record includes manufacturer, model names, efficiency, particulate emission rate, CO, heat output (BTU), firebox volume, fuel type and whether the model meets the **2020 NSPS (Step 2)** standard.

Source: [EPA Certified Wood Heater Database](https://cfpub.epa.gov/oarweb/woodstove/index.cfm?fuseaction=app.about) (public US government data). The Actor downloads EPA's own Excel exports, so results match the EPA site exactly. No login or proxy needed.

### Why use it

- **Hearth retailers and ecommerce sellers:** check that every stove you list is EPA certified and meets the 2020 standard before you sell it.
- **Tax credit and rebate programs:** filter models listing **75%+ efficiency**, the threshold used for the US biomass stove and boiler tax credit, and use the list for wood stove changeout programs.
- **Bulk model lookup:** paste a list of model names (or wildcards like `*1330*`). Models EPA doesn't list come back as `epaCertified: false`.
- **Monitoring:** schedule weekly with monitor mode to get only newly certified (or removed) models.
- **Market research:** compare manufacturers, efficiencies and emissions across the whole US market in a spreadsheet.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `heater_classes` | `room` (wood/pellet stoves), `central` (hydronic heaters, forced-air furnaces). Empty = both. |
| `certification_status` | `all`, `current` (meets 2020 NSPS) or `previous` (previously certified only). |
| `appliance_types` / `fuel_types` | Contains filters, e.g. `Pellet Stove`, `Cord Wood`. |
| `manufacturers` | Manufacturer contains, e.g. `Hearth and Home`. |
| `models` | Exact model names or wildcards. Unmatched exact names are output as not found. |
| `keywords` | Match any keyword in manufacturer, model, type or fuel. |
| `min_efficiency` | Minimum EPA-listed efficiency (%). |
| `only_tax_credit_eligible` | Only models listing 75%+ efficiency. |
| `max_emission_rate_g_per_hr` | Max particulate emission rate for room heaters. |
| `only_newly_listed` | Only models EPA flags as New. |
| `only_new` / `report_removed` | Monitor mode: output only changes since the previous run. |
| `max_items` | Limit results (0 = all). |

#### Examples

All currently sellable stoves with 75%+ efficiency:

```json
{ "heater_classes": ["room", "central"], "certification_status": "current", "only_tax_credit_eligible": true }
```

Bulk model lookup:

```json
{ "models": ["Rafael 55a", "*1330*", "Some Unknown Stove"] }
```

Weekly monitor for new pellet stove certifications:

```json
{ "appliance_types": ["Pellet Stove"], "only_new": true }
```

### Output (sample)

```json
{
  "heaterClass": "room",
  "manufacturer": "FlamPoint EnerG",
  "model": "Europa 75a, Rafael 55a",
  "modelNames": ["Europa 75a", "Rafael 55a"],
  "applianceType": "Pellet Stove",
  "subtype": "Non-Catalytic Stove",
  "fuelType": "Wood Pellets",
  "efficiencyPercent": 83,
  "meetsNsps2020": true,
  "taxCreditEfficiencyEligible": true,
  "emissionRateGramsPerHour": 0.08,
  "heatOutputUpperBtu": 28051,
  "heatOutputLowerBtu": 7144,
  "coEmissions": 0.054,
  "epaCertified": true,
  "source": "US EPA Certified Wood Heater Database"
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per result: you pay only for the records returned, with no start fee. The full database is about 1,600 records.

### Notes

- `taxCreditEfficiencyEligible` reflects only the efficiency EPA lists. Always confirm tax credit eligibility with the manufacturer's certification statement.
- Some listings cover several model names. They are split into `modelNames`, and model lookup matches any of them.
- Data is provided as-is from EPA. This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by US EPA.

# Actor input Schema

## `heater_classes` (type: `array`):

Leave empty for both.

## `certification_status` (type: `string`):

EPA's 'NSPS Compliance 2020' flag. New wood heaters sold in the US must meet the 2020 Step 2 standard.

## `appliance_types` (type: `array`):

Type contains, e.g. Wood Stove, Pellet Stove, Hydronic Heater, Forced Air Furnace.

## `fuel_types` (type: `array`):

Fuel type contains, e.g. Cord Wood, Wood Pellets.

## `manufacturers` (type: `array`):

Manufacturer contains (case-insensitive), e.g. Hearth and Home, England's Stove Works, Jotul.

## `models` (type: `array`):

Exact model names (spaces, dashes, dots ignored; matches any model in a multi-model listing) or wildcards with \* and ?, e.g. *1330*. Unmatched exact models are output with epaCertified=false.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Match any keyword in manufacturer, model, type, subtype or fuel.

## `min_efficiency` (type: `integer`):

Only models with EPA-listed efficiency at or above this value.

## `only_tax_credit_eligible` (type: `boolean`):

Keep only models listing efficiency >= 75% (the HHV efficiency threshold used for the US biomass stove/boiler tax credit). Always confirm eligibility with the manufacturer certificate.

## `max_emission_rate_g_per_hr` (type: `string`):

Only room heaters at or below this particulate emission rate, e.g. 2.0.

## `only_newly_listed` (type: `boolean`):

Keep only models EPA marks as New (recently certified).

## `output_not_found` (type: `boolean`):

For exact model lookups, output a row with epaCertified=false for each model EPA doesn't list.

## `max_items` (type: `integer`):

0 = no limit.

## `only_new` (type: `boolean`):

First run saves a baseline; later runs output only newly added models (and removed ones). Schedule it weekly.

## `report_removed` (type: `boolean`):

In monitor mode, also output models that disappeared since the last run.

## `state_store_name` (type: `string`):
