# Bulk File Downloader (direct links to Apify storage) (`psypherz/bulk-file-downloader`) Actor

Download up to 5,000 direct file links per run (PDF, images, CSV, ZIP, audio and video files) into Apify storage. Each file gets a download link, size, type and SHA-256 checksum.

## Pricing

from $1.70 / 1,000 file saveds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk File Downloader (direct links to Apify storage)

Give it a list of direct file links and get every file saved to Apify storage, with a download link, file name, size, content type and SHA-256 checksum for each one. Works for PDFs, images, CSV and Excel files, ZIP archives, audio and video files: anything served as a file.

**Price: US$0.002 per file saved (first 1 MB included), US$0.0002 per extra started MB, plus a US$0.001 run fee.** 1,000 images under 1 MB cost US$2.001. A 100 MB video costs US$0.022. Links that fail are not charged.

### What people use it for

- **Archive documents:** save invoices, reports or datasheets from a list of links before they disappear.
- **Image sets:** pull product or reference images from links you already have, for AI training or catalogues.
- **Pipelines:** feed downloaded files to OCR, transcription or PDF Actors with stable storage links.
- **Integrity checks:** compare SHA-256 checksums to spot changed files between runs.

### Input

- `urls`: direct file links, up to 5,000 per run.
- `maxFileMb` (default 100): larger files are skipped and not charged. Each 1 MB of limit needs 2 MB of run memory, so the default 512 MB memory allows files up to 256 MB. Raise memory in Run options for bigger files (up to 2,000 MB).
- `keyPrefix`: optional text added to every stored file's key.

### Rules this Actor follows

- **Direct file links only.** Web pages are refused, and so are social and streaming sites (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, Vimeo and similar). It does not extract videos from platforms.
- **robots.txt respected.** Files a site disallows for automated clients are skipped and not charged.
- **Honest identity, no unblocking.** Requests use an honest bot User-Agent. If a site refuses (for example HTTP 403), the file is reported as failed; the Actor never tries to get around it.
- **Public hosts only.** Private, local and cloud metadata addresses are refused on every redirect hop.
- **Polite.** At most 2 downloads at a time from the same host.
- Download only files you are allowed to copy.

### Where the files go

Files are saved in the run's key-value store (see the "File storage" tab of the run). Each row's `downloadUrl` opens the file directly. Apify keeps unnamed run storage for 7 days on most plans; copy files elsewhere if you need them longer.

### FAQ

**Why was a link refused as a web page?** The server answered with an HTML page, which usually means a login page, an error page or a preview page. Use the file's own direct link.

**Can an AI agent call it?** Yes. Compact JSON with stable field names and pay-per-event pricing.
