# Email List Validator (syntax, domain, MX, disposable) (`psypherz/email-list-validator`) Actor

Clean an email list before you send: syntax, domain and MX checks, disposable and role address detection, typo suggestions. Up to 100,000 emails per run. Stores nothing.

## Pricing

from $0.26 / 1,000 email checkeds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Email List Validator (syntax, domain, MX, disposable)

Clean an email list before you send. Every address gets a status (valid, risky, invalid or unknown), a plain reason, and each check behind it: syntax, whether the domain exists and accepts mail (MX records), disposable domains, role addresses like info@, free providers, and typo suggestions such as gmial.com to gmail.com.

**Price: US$0.0003 per email, plus a US$0.001 run fee.** 10,000 emails cost US$3.001. Emails whose domain's DNS does not answer are marked "unknown" and not charged.

### What people use it for

- **Pre-clean before an SMTP verifier:** drop dead domains, typos and throwaway addresses first, so you pay a full verifier only for the rest.
- **Sign-up form audits:** find disposable and mistyped addresses in your user list.
- **CRM hygiene:** flag role addresses and domains that no longer accept mail.
- **Lead list checks:** reject lists with too many dead domains before you import them.

### What it checks, and what it does not

- Checks: address syntax (RFC 5321/5322 rules in practice), domain exists, domain accepts mail (MX, or the A record fallback; RFC 7505 "null MX" counts as no mail), disposable domain list (about 10,000 domains), role address, free provider, common typos.
- Does not check whether a mailbox exists. That needs an SMTP connection on port 25, which Apify blocks for Actors. Use this Actor as the cheap first pass.

### Privacy

- Addresses are processed in memory for your run only and written only to your own run's dataset.
- Nothing is kept by the developer after the run. Addresses are never written to the run log, which shows counts only.
- No email is sent to any address, and no third-party verification service is called. The only outside lookups are DNS queries for each domain.

### Input

- `emails`: list of addresses, up to 100,000 per run. Text with commas or new lines also works.
- `removeDuplicates` (default true): check each address once.

### Example output

Real output from the sample input (30 Oct 2026).

| email | status | reason | didYouMean |
|---|---|---|---|
| support@github.com | risky | Role address (shared inbox such as info@ or support@). |  |
| jane.doe@gmial.com | risky | Looks like a typo of a common provider. | jane.doe@gmail.com |
| test@mailinator.com | risky | Disposable (throwaway) email domain. |  |
| someone@no-such-domain-zz9.com | invalid | Domain does not exist. |  |
| not-an-email | invalid | Syntax: not a single address with one @. |  |

One full item:

```json
{
  "email": "jane.doe@gmial.com",
  "status": "risky",
  "reason": "Looks like a typo of a common provider.",
  "normalizedEmail": "jane.doe@gmial.com",
  "domain": "gmial.com",
  "syntaxValid": true,
  "domainExists": true,
  "acceptsMail": true,
  "mxHosts": [
    "gmial.com"
  ],
  "isDisposable": true,
  "didYouMean": "jane.doe@gmail.com",
  "checkedAt": "2026-10-30T17:09:34+00:00"
}
```

### Status meanings

- **valid:** syntax is fine and the domain accepts mail; not disposable, not a role address, no typo found.
- **risky:** deliverable domain, but disposable, a likely typo, or a role address.
- **invalid:** bad syntax, the domain does not exist, or it accepts no mail.
- **unknown:** the domain's DNS did not answer in time. Not charged; run these again later.

### Limits

- 100,000 emails per run. Split bigger lists across runs.
- Free Apify plan: 100 emails per run.
- One DNS lookup per domain, 50 at a time; a list of 10,000 emails usually finishes in a few minutes.

### FAQ

**Is "valid" a guarantee that the email will not bounce?** No. It means the domain accepts mail. A mailbox can still be closed or full.

**Why is my company's support@ address "risky"?** Role addresses are shared inboxes. Many email platforms treat them as a higher complaint risk for marketing mail.

**Can an AI agent call it?** Yes. Compact JSON with stable field names and pay-per-event pricing.
