## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google AI Overview Tracker (text, cited sources, your domain)

Check which of your keywords trigger a Google AI Overview, read what it says, see every source it cites, and find out whether your own site is one of them. Up to 1,000 keywords per run, in 49 countries, desktop or mobile.

**Price: US$0.002 per keyword, plus a US$0.003 run fee.** 100 keywords cost US$0.203.

### What people use it for

- **AI search visibility (GEO and AEO):** track how often Google's AI Overview cites your domain, and at which position.
- **Lost traffic diagnosis:** find the keywords where an AI Overview now sits above your organic result.
- **Competitor citations:** see which domains Google's AI trusts in your niche.
- **Content planning:** read the AI Overview text to see what Google thinks the answer is, then write something better.
- **Reporting:** schedule weekly runs and chart citation share over time.

### Example output

Real output from the sample input on Apify (27 Oct 2026).

|---|---|---|---|
| what is intermittent fasting | true | 12 | health.clevelandclinic.org, my.clevelandclinic.org, sph.umich.edu |

| best project management software | true | 9 | www.g2.com, www.icagile.com, www.paymoapp.com |

```
The sample run had no `targetDomain`. With one set, each item also gets `targetDomain`, `targetCited`, `targetCitationPositions` and `targetOrganicRank`. `targetCitationPositions` lists where your domain appears in the AI Overview's sources (1 = first). `targetOrganicRank` is your best position in the top 10 organic results, or `null`. Subdomains count, so `blog.example.com` matches `example.com`.
### Input
| Field | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| `keywords` | One search query per line, up to 1,000. | 3 sample queries |
| `targetDomain` | Optional. Your domain, such as `example.com`. Adds the four `target...` fields. | empty |
| `country` | Two-letter country code. | `US` |
| `language` | Two-letter language code. | `en` |
| `device` | `desktop` or `mobile`. | `desktop` |
### Pricing
| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Run fee, once per run | US$0.003 |
| Keyword checked | US$0.002 |
Examples: 10 keywords cost US$0.023. 100 keywords cost US$0.203. 1,000 keywords cost US$2.003. You pay the same whether or not an AI Overview appears, because finding out is the check. Failed checks are not charged.
### Limits
- 1,000 keywords per run.
- Results usually take 1 to 3 minutes, because searches go through a queue that keeps the price low.
- Free Apify plan: the first 3 keywords per run.
- Google shows AI Overviews for some queries and not others, and this changes from day to day. One run is a snapshot.
### FAQ
**Where does the data come from?** Live Google results collected by DataForSEO, with the AI Overview loaded in full.
**Why is `aiOverviewPresent` false for a keyword I saw one on?** AI Overviews vary by country, device, language and time. Check that these match what you tested by hand.
**Does it track ChatGPT or Perplexity?** No, only Google's AI Overview.
**Can an AI agent call it?** Yes. Compact JSON, stable field names, pay-per-event pricing, and it works with Apify's MCP server.
