## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk Keyword Search Volume (Google Ads data)

Get monthly Google search volume, cost per click, competition and a 12-month trend for up to 10,000 keywords in one run. Data comes from Google Ads through DataForSEO, the same source most SEO tools use. You need no Google Ads account and no API key.

**Price: US$0.003 per keyword for the first 100 in a run, then US$0.0003, plus US$0.09 per block of up to 1,000 keywords.** 50 keywords cost US$0.24. 1,000 keywords cost US$0.66.

### What people use it for

- **Keyword research:** rank a list of ideas by real search demand before you write content.
- **PPC planning:** see CPC and top-of-page bid ranges before you spend on Google Ads.
- **Content gaps:** check volume for every keyword a competitor ranks for, in bulk.
- **Seasonality:** the 12-month trend shows when demand peaks, so you can publish in time.
- **AI agents and automations:** call it from n8n, Make, Zapier, LangChain or an MCP client and get compact JSON back.

### Example output

Real output from the sample input on Apify (27 Oct 2026).

| keyword | searchVolume | cpcUsd | competition | competitionIndex | trendChangePct |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| running shoes | 301000 | 1.09 | HIGH | 100 | -13.3 |
| trail running shoes | 165000 | 1.03 | HIGH | 100 | -40.4 |
| best running shoes for flat feet | 9900 | 0.96 | HIGH | 86 | 61.1 |

One full item:

```json
{
  "keyword": "trail running shoes",
  "country": "US",
  "language": "en",
  "searchVolume": 165000,
  "cpcUsd": 1.03,
  "lowTopOfPageBidUsd": 0.32,
  "highTopOfPageBidUsd": 1.59,
  "competition": "HIGH",
  "competitionIndex": 100,
  "trendChangePct": -40.4,
  "monthlyTrend": [
    }
  ],
  "checkedAt": "2026-10-27T11:06:22+00:00"
}
```

`trendChangePct` compares the average of the latest 3 months with the average of the earliest 3 months in the 12-month trend. `monthlyTrend` lists the last 12 months, oldest first (shortened above to 3).

### Input

| Field | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| `keywords` | One keyword per line, up to 10,000. Each must be 80 characters or fewer and 10 words or fewer. | 3 sample keywords |
| `country` | Two-letter country code. 49 countries supported, including US, GB, DE, IN, SG, BR, JP. | `US` |
| `language` | Two-letter language code, such as `en`, `de`, `es`. | `en` |
| `includeSearchPartners` | Add searches on Google's partner sites. Most SEO tools leave this off. | `false` |

Duplicates are removed (case does not matter). Keywords Google Ads cannot accept, such as ones with `!`, `@` or `,`, are listed in the output with a note and are not charged.

### Pricing

Pay per event. You only pay for keywords that come back.

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Run fee, per block of up to 1,000 keywords | US$0.09 |
| Keyword, first 100 in a run | US$0.003 |
| Keyword, after the first 100 | US$0.0003 |

Examples: 10 keywords cost US$0.12. 100 keywords cost US$0.39. 1,000 keywords cost US$0.66. 5,000 keywords cost US$2.22.

The run fee exists because the data provider charges per request, whatever the keyword count. Set "Maximum cost per run" in Apify and the Actor checks only as many keywords as that limit covers.

### Limits

- 10,000 keywords per run. Split bigger lists across runs.
- Results usually take 1 to 5 minutes, because requests go through a queue that keeps the price low.
- This Actor needs a paid Apify plan. Every run buys fresh data, and Apify does not pay developers for runs on the free plan. On the free plan, a run with the prefilled example keywords returns a stored, dated sample (marked `cachedExample: true`) at no charge, so you can see the output. Any other free-plan input is refused.
- Volumes are Google's rounded monthly averages, the same numbers Google Keyword Planner shows.

### FAQ

**Where does the data come from?** Google Ads keyword data, through the DataForSEO API.

**Why is a keyword's volume empty?** Google has no data for it, usually because almost nobody searches it. You are still charged for it, since the lookup was made.

**Can I get keyword ideas or related keywords?** Not in this Actor. Use it to measure lists you already have.

**What if the run fails?** You are not charged for invalid input, for keywords that were skipped, or when the data provider is unavailable. The status message says what went wrong.

**Can an AI agent call it?** Yes. The input is plain JSON and the output is compact JSON with stable field names. It works with Apify's MCP server and pay-per-event payments.
