## Pricing

from $1.00 / 1,000 grants

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

This Actor reads EU-funded research projects from CORDIS, the European Commission's record of what Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020 have funded. It returns one record per project with its EU contribution, coordinator and every participating organisation, filtered at the source by programme, status, start date and keyword.

### What it does

- Returns **one record per project**: 59,343 when this was verified (Horizon 2020 35,389, Horizon Europe 23,954).
- **Filters at the source.** Programme, status, start-date range and keyword are passed to CORDIS, so a narrow query costs less.
- Reads each project's **detail record**: objective, total cost, maximum EU contribution, funding scheme, topic, call, fields of science, the coordinator and every participant with its own EU contribution, country, activity type and SME flag.
- **Walks the whole result set.** CORDIS serves 10 projects a page and stops paging past 10,000 results, so a large query is cut into start-date windows and each is read in full.
- Needs **no API key**. CORDIS is open data.

### Use cases

| You need to | How this Actor does it |
| --- | --- |
| Map who wins EU research money in a field | Set a keyword and group participants by country or organisation |
| Track an institution's EU grants | Run a keyword or programme query and filter participants by name |
| Find partners for a proposal | Pull projects on your topic and read their participant lists |
| Watch new Horizon Europe grants | Filter on programme `HORIZON`, status `SIGNED` and a recent start date, and schedule the run |
| Feed a research agent | Call the Actor over MCP and let the model set the filters |

### Quick start

1. Click **Try for free**.
2. Put a **Keyword** in, or pick a programme, status or start-date range — or leave everything empty for all projects.
3. Set **Max items**, which is what caps the cost of the run.
4. Click **Start**, then export as JSON, CSV, Excel or XML, or read the dataset over the API.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | What it controls |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `keyword` | string | empty | Full-text search run by CORDIS |
| `programme` | string | empty | `HORIZON` (Horizon Europe) or `H2020` (Horizon 2020) |
| `status` | string | empty | `SIGNED`, `CLOSED` or `TERMINATED` |
| `startDateFrom` / `startDateTo` | date | empty | Inclusive range on the project start date |
| `fetchDetails` | boolean | `true` | Reads the detail record (costs, coordinator, participants); off gives the search fields only, faster |
| `maxItems` | integer | `500` | Caps how many projects are returned, and so what the run costs; `0` for everything matched |

```json
{
    "keyword": "hydrogen",
    "programme": "HORIZON",
    "maxItems": 100
}
```

### Output

One dataset item per project, newest start date first.

| Field group | Fields |
| --- | --- |
| Identity | `projectId`, `rcn`, `acronym`, `doi`, `projectUrl` |
| Description | `title`, `teaser`, `objective`, `keywords`, `fieldsOfScience` |
| Programme | `framework`, `programme`, `programmes`, `fundingSchemeCode`, `fundingSchemeTitle`, `topics`, `calls`, `subCalls` |
| Money | `totalCost`, `ecContribution` (euro) |
| Dates | `startDate`, `endDate`, `ecSignatureDate`, `terminationDate`, `lastUpdated` |
| Organisations | `coordinatorName`, `coordinatorCountry`, `coordinator`, `participants`, `partners`, `participantCount`, `organizations` |

```json
{
    "projectId": "101285692",
    "acronym": "QLAIM",
    "title": "Claiming ‘Sexual Minority’: A Transnational Political History, 1921–1981.",
    "status": "SIGNED",
    "programme": "HORIZON",
    "startDate": "2027-12-01",
    "endDate": "2029-11-30",
    "ecContribution": 200400,
    "fundingSchemeTitle": "HORIZON TMA MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships - European Fellowships",
    "coordinatorName": "UNIVERSITEIT ANTWERPEN",
    "coordinatorCountry": "BE",
    "projectUrl": "https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101285692"
}
```

### Coverage and limits

- CORDIS's search index covers **Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe only**. FP7 and earlier programmes are not in it.
- `totalCost` is published as `0` on some projects (fellowships in particular); it is returned as CORDIS publishes it.
- ERC grants publish a host institution and beneficiaries rather than a coordinator and participants; `coordinator` and `participants` fall back to those, and `organizations` keeps every group as published.
- 12 projects carry no start date. An unfiltered run returns them; a run with a start-date range cannot match them.
- Compared with the OpenAIRE projects Actor in this fleet, which returns project-level funder, funding stream and amounts, this one adds the coordinator and every participant with its own EU contribution, plus topic, call and fields of science.

### Pricing

Pay per event: one `grant-scraper` event per project written to the dataset. The optional schema.org block is charged once per run.

# Actor input Schema

## `keyword` (type: `string`):

Server-side full-text search across the project record. Examples: 'hydrogen', 'quantum computing'. Leave empty for every project — 59,343 when this was verified.

## `programme` (type: `string`):

Restricts to one framework programme, filtered by CORDIS. Leave empty for both.

## `status` (type: `string`):

Restricts to one project status, filtered by CORDIS. Leave empty for all three.

## `startDateFrom` (type: `string`):

Keeps projects starting on or after this date (YYYY-MM-DD), filtered by CORDIS. Example: 2025-01-01.

## `startDateTo` (type: `string`):

Keeps projects starting on or before this date (YYYY-MM-DD), filtered by CORDIS. Example: 2025-12-31.

## `fetchDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Reads each project's detail record: objective, total cost, EU contribution, funding scheme, topic, call, coordinator and every participant with its EU contribution. Turn off for a faster run with the search fields only.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Caps how many projects are written to the dataset, and so caps the cost. Examples: 1, 500, 5000. Set to 0 for everything matched. Default is 500.

## `schemaOrg` (type: `boolean`):

Appends a `schemaOrg` object to the end of every record, mapping it to schema.org (MonetaryGrant). The record's own fields are not changed. Off by default. Charged once per run, not per record.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "fetchDetails": true,
  "maxItems": 500,
  "schemaOrg": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Projects matched by the run, one item per record, in the default dataset.
