## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## LatAm Supermarket & Retail Prices: Argentina, Peru, Mexico

Compare **real shelf prices across 13 Latin American supermarkets and retailers** in one run. Search by product name or by **EAN barcode**, and get the current price, list price, discount, stock and product URL. A **cross-chain price comparison** (cheapest vs most expensive chain per EAN) is built automatically.

| Country | Chains |
|---|---|
| 🇦🇷 Argentina | Carrefour, Día, Jumbo, Disco, Vea, ChangoMás, Farmacity, Frávega, Easy |
| 🇵🇪 Peru | Wong, Plaza Vea, Metro |
| 🇲🇽 Mexico | Chedraui |

### Use cases

- **Price monitoring** for FMCG brands, distributors and category managers (schedule it daily).
- **Inflation & CPI research** in Argentina: track the same EAN over time across chains.
- **Retail arbitrage / pricing** for small shops and e-commerce sellers.
- **Price-comparison apps** and data journalism.

### Example: Aceite Natura 1.5 L (EAN search, Argentina)

6 chains found it, with a **26.6% spread** between the cheapest (ChangoMás $5,899) and the most expensive (Carrefour $7,469).

### Input

```json
{
  "queries": ["yerba playadito", "aceite natura 1.5"],
  "eans": ["7793704000928"],
  "countries": ["AR"],
  "maxItemsPerChain": 30,
  "onlyAvailable": false,
  "compareByEan": true
}
```

### Output (dataset, one row per product per chain)

```json
{
  "chain": "Día", "chainId": "dia_ar", "country": "AR", "currency": "ARS",
  "name": "Yerba Mate Playadito Suave 1 Kg.", "brand": "Playadito", "ean": "7793704000928",
  "price": 5208, "listPrice": 5208, "discountPct": 0, "available": true,
  "url": "https://diaonline.supermercadosdia.com.ar/...", "image": "https://...",
  "category": "Yerba", "query": "7793704000928", "scrapedAt": "2026-10-23T22:30:00+00:00"
}
```

The key-value store record `PRICE_COMPARISON` holds one entry per EAN found in 2+ chains, with `minPrice`, `minChain`, `maxPrice`, `maxChain`, `spreadPct` and every offer.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.02 per run + $0.003 per product result** (≈ $3 per 1,000 prices). A typical 10-product, 9-chain comparison costs under $0.10.

### Notes

- Uses each store's public product catalog (no login, no personal data), with polite rate limits.
- Prices are those shown online for the default store/region and may differ from physical stores.
- Missing a chain? Open an issue and it can usually be added within days.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

Product search terms, e.g. 'yerba playadito', 'aceite girasol 1.5', 'leche'.

## `eans` (type: `array`):

Exact EAN-13 barcodes to compare across chains.

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Limit to countries (empty = all).

## `chains` (type: `array`):

Limit to specific chains (empty = all).

## `maxItemsPerChain` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of products returned per chain for each search term or EAN. Each returned product is one billable result.

## `onlyAvailable` (type: `boolean`):

If enabled, only products currently in stock are returned (and charged).

## `compareByEan` (type: `boolean`):

Saves PRICE_COMPARISON to the key-value store: cheapest/most expensive chain per EAN.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "queries": [
    "yerba playadito"
  ],
  "eans": [
    "7793704000928"
  ],
  "maxItemsPerChain": 30,
  "onlyAvailable": false,
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per product found: chain, country, name, brand, EAN, price, list price, discount %, currency, availability, URL and the query that matched.

## `priceComparison` (type: `string`):

JSON record PRICE_COMPARISON: products (by EAN) found in 2+ chains with cheapest/most expensive chain and price spread. Only present when compareByEan is true.
