# Parking Lot Size Finder (US) (`quarrylane/parking-lots`) Actor

Get the surface parking lot area (sq ft) for any list of US businesses. Feed it Google Maps Scraper results and rank sealcoating, paving, striping and snow-removal leads by lot size. Pay only per business looked up.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Parking Lot Size for Business Lists (US)

**Rank any list of US businesses by how much parking they have.** Give this Actor the
results of a Google Maps Scraper run (or any list with coordinates) and every business
comes back with the size of the surface parking lots next to it, in m² and sq ft.

### Who it's for

Lead lists for companies that sell **to parking lots**:

- asphalt paving, sealcoating and crack filling
- line striping and parking-lot maintenance
- snow removal and parking-lot sweeping
- lot lighting, security and EV-charger installation

Sort the output by `parking.lotAreaSqFt` and the businesses with the biggest lots, the
best prospects, are at the top.

### How to use it

1. Run a business scraper, e.g. Google Maps Scraper for "shopping center" in your county.
2. Run this Actor with that run's **dataset ID** (or paste businesses as JSON).
3. Sort or filter the output by lot area; export to CSV or Excel.

Every field of your input is kept; the Actor adds one `parking` object:

```json
{
  "title": "Example Market",
  "location": {"lat": 39.68, "lng": -75.75},
  "parking": {
    "status": "found",
    "lotAreaM2": 7684,
    "lotAreaSqFt": 82710,
    "lotCount": 5,
    "largestLotM2": 4120,
    "nearestLotDistanceM": 12.4,
    "shared": false,
    "garageOrStreetParkingNearby": false,
    "lots": [{"osmUrl": "https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/123", "areaM2": 4120, "distanceM": 12.4}],
    "source": "OpenStreetMap as of 2026-11-02T21:21:26Z"
  }
}
```

- **lotAreaM2 / lotAreaSqFt:** total area of the surface lots within the search radius
  (default 75 m) of the business's point.
- **shared:** a lot also counted for another business in your list (strip malls), so you
  don't count it twice.
- **garageOrStreetParkingNearby:** a parking garage, underground or street parking is
  mapped nearby; these aren't in the area.
- **status:** `found`, `none_found` (no mapped lot nearby), `no_coordinates` or
  `outside_coverage` (outside the US).
- **source:** the oldest OpenStreetMap date among the US states; some are newer.

### Coverage and accuracy

All 50 states, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands; right at the border (within a
few km) a point can be read as being on the wrong side. Lots come from
**OpenStreetMap**, mapped by volunteers: dense in many cities, patchy in others. A
business with `none_found` may still have a lot that nobody has mapped yet. We are
building an aerial-imagery model to fill those gaps.

### Pricing

You pay per business looked up (`found` or `none_found`). Rows without coordinates or
outside the US are free.

### Data licence

Parking data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License
(ODbL): https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright. The `parking` fields are a database
derived from OpenStreetMap; if you share them publicly, the ODbL applies to them.

# Actor input Schema

## `datasetId` (type: `string`):

ID of a dataset whose items have coordinates, e.g. the default dataset of a Google Maps Scraper run (items with location.lat and location.lng). Items may also use lat/lng, latitude/longitude or lat/lon.

## `businesses` (type: `array`):

Items with coordinates, as above. Every field you give is kept in the output.

## `radiusMeters` (type: `integer`):

Lots whose edge is within this distance of the business's point count as its lots.

## `minLotAreaM2` (type: `integer`):

Lots under this area are left out of the totals (0: count every lot).

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many (empty: all).

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "businesses": [
    {
      "title": "Example store",
      "location": {
        "lat": 39.7286,
        "lng": -104.9407
      }
    }
  ],
  "radiusMeters": 75,
  "minLotAreaM2": 0
}
