## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Federal Grant Opportunities Search — Grants.gov API

Search current U.S. federal funding opportunities through the public Grants.gov search API and export structured opportunity rows.

Use it for **grant discovery, funding research, agency monitoring, opportunity tracking, nonprofit/business research, and automated federal-funding workflows**.

> **This product uses the Grants.gov API but is not endorsed or certified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.**

### Common use cases

- Discover federal funding opportunities by keyword
- Filter opportunities by agency, status, category, eligibility, or Assistance Listing Number
- Monitor funding opportunities in a target subject area
- Build structured grant-opportunity datasets for research
- Feed opportunity IDs and metadata into downstream review workflows

### What you get

One billable row per search result can include:

- opportunity ID and number;
- title;
- agency code/name;
- open and close dates;
- opportunity status;
- document type;
- ALN list;
- exact applied filters;
- source rank and capture timestamp.

### Source

`POST https://api.grants.gov/v1/api/search2`

Grants.gov documents `search2` as a public search endpoint that does not require authentication or authorization.

This Actor uses only `search2` in v1. It does not call `fetchOpportunity`, download NOFO files, fetch attachments, crawl grantor websites, or collect contact information from detail pages.

### Input

Search by keyword, opportunity number/status, agency code, funding category, eligibility code, Assistance Listing Number (ALN / legacy CFDA), and maximum rows.

The bounded Store default searches **health** opportunities with **Posted + Forecasted** status and saves at most 25 rows.

### Important limitations

Search results are opportunity records from Grants.gov. This Actor does not determine applicant eligibility, recommend a grant, guarantee funding availability or award, interpret NOFO requirements, or replace review of the full official opportunity materials.

### Pricing

Only successfully saved opportunity rows are billed. A legitimate zero-result search writes one non-billed `complete-no-results` summary row. API/source failures remain failures.

Candidate target: **$0.25 per 1,000 opportunity rows** ($0.00025 each), only if the live 1,000-row benchmark clears the factory's 3× platform-cost gate and a final Store-floor check still supports the position.

Public release is a separate decision.
