## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Play Reviews — Global Public API

Export public Google Play reviews from package IDs or Play Store URLs using a **pinned maintained review adapter** instead of hard-coding Google's private RPC payload shape.

No Google account, Play Console access, browser, proxy, or API key is required.

### What it does

- validates package IDs through Google Play metadata lookup when enabled;
- exports public review ID, stars, text, author, app version, timestamps, edit status, and source;
- attaches useful app metadata such as app name, developer, category, store rating, rating count, and Play URL;
- preserves the review adapter's provider/source identity;
- exposes partial failures and pagination outcomes in `RUN_SUMMARY`;
- globally deduplicates review IDs per source;
- charges only unique review rows actually saved.

The runtime pins `app-reviews==1.0.0`, released September 23, 2026. A future adapter upgrade should be deliberate and regression-tested rather than silently changing source parsing.

### Important country/language semantics

The credential-free Google Play review source is a **global review corpus**. It does not report reviewer country, so this Actor does not offer a fake country filter and returns `country: null`.

Likewise, `language` is only populated when the provider reports one. Do not reinterpret review language as reviewer location.

### Example input

```json
{
  "apps": [
    "com.spotify.music",
    "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.duolingo"
  ],
  "maxReviews": 1000,
  "maxReviewsPerApp": 1000,
  "maxPagesPerApp": 10,
  "validateApps": true
}
```

### Output

Each review row includes normalized public review fields plus app metadata. `RUN_SUMMARY` records per-app metadata validation, pages/outcomes, skipped records, partial errors, and stop reasons.

### Pricing

Pay per unique review saved. Invalid packages, provider errors, skipped records, and empty valid results are not billed as review rows.

### Limits and source risk

Google Play's public web review endpoint is undocumented and can change without notice. This Actor reduces maintenance risk by pinning an actively maintained parsing/paging library and surfacing provider failures instead of converting malformed responses into silent empty success.

Historical completeness depends on the public source and configured limits. This Actor does not claim access to private Play Console data or official developer-only review APIs.

# Actor input Schema

## `apps` (type: `array`):

One to 25 Android package IDs or play.google.com app URLs.

## `maxReviews` (type: `integer`):

Hard cap on unique review rows saved across all apps.

## `maxReviewsPerApp` (type: `integer`):

Per-app fetch/output cap before moving to the next app.

## `maxPagesPerApp` (type: `integer`):

Safety cap for the maintained review adapter's pagination walk.

## `validateApps` (type: `boolean`):

Look up each package on Google Play before review collection so a missing package is distinguishable from a valid app with no returned reviews.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

Number of apps processed simultaneously. Kept conservative because the source is an undocumented public Google Play endpoint.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "apps": [
    "com.spotify.music"
  ],
  "maxReviews": 1000,
  "maxReviewsPerApp": 1000,
  "maxPagesPerApp": 10,
  "validateApps": true,
  "concurrency": 2
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `reviews` (type: `string`):

No description

## `summary` (type: `string`):

No description

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("quartz_apple_dnx/google-play-reviews-global-api").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
The hosted server signs you in with OAuth on first connect, so no API token belongs in this config. Clients without OAuth support can send an `Authorization: Bearer <APIFY_API_TOKEN>` header instead, using a token from API & Integrations in Apify Console (https://console.apify.com/settings/integrations).
