## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Review Monitor – App Store & Google Play reviews

**App Review Monitor** fetches the newest customer reviews for any iOS and Android apps and saves them in one normalised dataset with a simple **positive / neutral / negative** sentiment label. Turn on **only new reviews** and schedule it to get a feed of fresh reviews for your own apps or your competitors'.

- 🍎 **App Store** – Apple's public customer-reviews RSS/JSON feed, per country (up to the ~500 most recent reviews per country that Apple exposes)
- 🤖 **Google Play** – via the open-source [`google-play-scraper`](https://github.com/facundoolano/google-play-scraper) package, newest first, by language
- 🆕 **Only new since last run** – remembers review IDs in a named key-value store and stops paging as soon as it reaches already-seen reviews
- 😊 Rating-based sentiment: 4–5★ positive, 3★ neutral, 1–2★ negative
- No login, no API keys, no browser

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `appStoreAppIds` | Numeric Apple app IDs (e.g. `324684580`) or App Store URLs. |
| `googlePlayAppIds` | Package names (e.g. `com.spotify.music`) or Play URLs. |
| `countries` | Country codes for the App Store, e.g. `["us","gb","de"]`. |
| `language` | Google Play review language (default `en`). |
| `maxReviews` | Max newest reviews per App Store app per country, and per Play app (default 100). |
| `onlyNew` | Output only reviews not seen in previous runs (first run = baseline). |
| `stateStoreName` | Named key-value store for seen IDs – use one name per monitor. |
| `addSentiment` | Add the rating-based sentiment label (default on). |

If no app IDs are given, a demo (Spotify on both stores) is used.

```json
{
  "appStoreAppIds": ["324684580"],
  "googlePlayAppIds": ["com.spotify.music"],
  "countries": ["us", "gb"],
  "maxReviews": 100,
  "onlyNew": true
}
```

### Output

```json
{
  "store": "appStore",
  "appId": "324684580",
  "country": "us",
  "language": null,
  "reviewId": "14736661579",
  "rating": 1,
  "title": "Terrible performance now",
  "text": "App freezes, doesn’t play music and stays in a loading loop",
  "author": "StyloSavage",
  "version": "9.1.94",
  "date": "2026-11-01T07:12:42.000Z",
  "url": "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id324684580?see-all=reviews",
  "thumbsUp": 0,
  "replyText": null,
  "sentiment": "negative",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-11-02T16:59:19.753Z"
}
```

Google Play items have `store: "googlePlay"`, `country: null` and `language` set (Play serves the same reviews in every country, grouped by language), and include the developer's `replyText` when there is one. A `RUN_SUMMARY` record in the default key-value store lists counts and errors per app.

### Use cases

- Alert your team (Slack, email, webhooks) when new 1–2★ reviews arrive
- Track reception of each new app version
- Competitor and market research across countries
- Feed reviews into BI dashboards or LLM-based topic analysis

### Limitations

- Apple's public feed returns at most 10 pages × 50 reviews per app per country, and only reviews with text.
- Google Play has no official public reviews API; the open-source scraper may break when Google changes its site. If Play fails, App Store results are still saved and the error is logged.
- The sentiment label is derived from the star rating only, not from text analysis.

### Legal note

This Actor collects only **publicly visible reviews**. Reviews include public reviewer display names – treat them as personal data under GDPR and similar laws: collect only what you need, have a legitimate purpose and don't use them to contact or profile individuals. You are responsible for complying with Apple's and Google's terms and applicable law.

# Actor input Schema

## `appStoreAppIds` (type: `array`):

Numeric Apple app IDs, e.g. `324684580` (Spotify) from https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/spotify/id324684580. Full App Store URLs also work.

## `googlePlayAppIds` (type: `array`):

Android package names, e.g. `com.spotify.music` from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotify.music. Full Play URLs also work.

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Two-letter country codes, e.g. `us`, `gb`, `de`. App Store reviews are per country. Google Play reviews are not country-specific, so Play uses only the first country (with the language below).

## `language` (type: `string`):

Two-letter language code for Google Play reviews, e.g. `en`, `de`, `fr`.

## `maxReviews` (type: `integer`):

Maximum newest reviews to output per App Store app per country, and per Google Play app. Apple's public feed exposes at most 500 most recent reviews per country.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Remember review IDs in a named key-value store and output only reviews not seen before. The first run outputs everything and sets the baseline. Ideal for scheduled monitoring.

## `stateStoreName` (type: `string`):

Name of the key-value store used to remember seen review IDs. Use a different name per monitor to keep separate histories.

## `addSentiment` (type: `boolean`):

Add a simple rating-based sentiment label: 4–5 stars = positive, 3 = neutral, 1–2 = negative.

## `requestDelayMs` (type: `integer`):

Polite pause between requests.

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):
