## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk URL Status, Redirect Chain & SEO Meta Checker

**Bulk URL Status & Redirect Checker** takes a list of URLs and tells you, for every one, the final **HTTP status code**, the full **redirect chain** (each 301 / 302 / 303 / 307 / 308 hop with its `Location`), the **final URL**, the response time, and the page's SEO tags: `<title>`, meta description, canonical, meta robots and the `X-Robots-Tag` header.

It follows redirects itself, one hop at a time (up to `maxRedirects`), so you see exactly where each URL ends up and how it got there. Plain HTTP requests only — no browser — so it is fast and cheap for thousands of URLs.

### What can you use it for?

#### Check redirects after a site migration

Paste your old URLs and confirm each one 301s to the right new page in a single hop, with no redirect loops or chains.

#### Bulk HTTP status code checker

Find 404, 410, 5xx and DNS/timeout errors across a URL list from a spreadsheet, sitemap or crawl export.

#### Redirect chain checker for SEO

Spot multi-hop chains (http → https → www → final) that waste crawl budget, and mixed 302/301 redirects.

#### Affiliate and short link checker

Resolve bit.ly-style short links and affiliate links to see their real destination.

#### Bulk title, meta description and canonical extractor

Audit `<title>`, meta description, canonical and noindex tags on hundreds of pages at once.

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free** (or **Start**).
2. Enter your input (see the example below) and click **Save & Start**.
3. Download results as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read them via the API.

### Input

- `urls` — List of URLs, one per line. Bare domains get `https://`.
- `maxRedirects` — Max hops to follow per URL (default 10).
- `extractMeta` — Read title, meta description, canonical and robots tags from HTML pages (default on).
- `concurrency` — Parallel requests (default 10, max 50).
- `timeoutSecs` — Timeout per request in seconds (default 15).

Example input:

```json
{
  "urls": [
    "http://example.com",
    "https://apify.com"
  ],
  "maxRedirects": 10,
  "extractMeta": true
}
```

### Output example

| url | status | redirectCount | finalUrl | title | responseMs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| http://example.com | 200 | 0 | http://example.com | Example Domain | 105 |
| https://apify.com | 200 | 0 | https://apify.com | Apify: Marketplace of ready-to-run tools for AI | 217 |

All output fields: `url`, `finalUrl`, `status`, `redirectCount`, `redirectChain` (list of `{url, status, location}`), `title`, `metaDescription`, `canonical`, `robotsMeta`, `xRobotsTag`, `contentType`, `responseMs`, `error`

### How much does it cost?

This Actor uses **pay-per-event** pricing. You pay only for results, not for servers or subscriptions:

- **$0.002 per URL checked**, which is **$2.00 per 1,000 URLs**
- plus Apify's standard **Actor start** event of $0.00005 per run (per GB of memory; the default 512 MB memory = one event)

| You process | You pay (approx.) |
|---|---|
| 100 URLs | $0.20 |
| 1,000 URLs | $2.00 |
| 10,000 URLs | $20.00 |

Apify's free plan includes monthly platform credit, which is enough to try this Actor at no cost.

### Run it via API, schedule or AI agents

Run from your own code with the Apify API, JavaScript or Python client, schedule it in Apify Console, connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n or Google Sheets, or let an AI agent call it through the Apify MCP server (`https://mcp.apify.com`).

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/quillbit-tools~bulk-redirect-status-checker/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"urls": ["http://example.com", "https://apify.com"], "maxRedirects": 10, "extractMeta": true}'
```

### FAQ

**Is every URL charged, even if it fails?**
Yes. Each URL in your list produces one result row (status, or an `error` such as `ENOTFOUND` or `Timeout`) and one `url-checked` event. Duplicate URLs in the input are removed first, so they are not charged twice.

**Does it run JavaScript or follow meta-refresh / JS redirects?**
No. It follows HTTP redirects (3xx + `Location` header) only. That is what search engines treat as a redirect and keeps runs fast and cheap.

**What status does it report for a redirect?**
`status` is the status of the final URL. Every intermediate hop and its status code is in `redirectChain`.

**Can I export to CSV or Excel?**
Yes. Every dataset can be downloaded as CSV, Excel, JSON, XML or HTML, or read from the API.

**Some sites return 403 to bots. Why?**
A few sites block non-browser clients. The Actor reports the status they return; it does not try to bypass bot protection.
