## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Website Tech Stack Detector – CMS, Frameworks, Analytics

**Website Tech Stack Detector** finds out **what technology a website uses**, in bulk. For each URL it fetches the page once and matches the HTML and HTTP headers against **115 technology signatures**: CMS (WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Webflow…), ecommerce platforms, JavaScript frameworks (React, Next.js, Vue, Angular…), analytics and tag managers, advertising pixels, live chat, marketing automation, CDN, hosting, web servers and backend frameworks.

A Wappalyzer / BuiltWith-style lookup without a browser extension or a subscription: one row per site with the full technology list, technologies grouped by category, and quick `cms`, `ecommerce` and `analytics` columns.

### What can you use it for?

#### Find out what CMS a website uses

Instantly see if a site runs WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Drupal, Ghost and more.

#### Lead generation by technology

Upload a list of company websites and keep only the Shopify stores, WordPress sites or HubSpot users you want to sell to.

#### Competitor tech stack analysis

See which frameworks, analytics, chat and marketing tools your competitors use.

#### Bulk Wappalyzer alternative

Check thousands of domains in one run and export to CSV or Google Sheets.

#### Hosting and CDN lookup

Detect Cloudflare, Vercel, Netlify, CloudFront, Fastly, Nginx, Apache and more from response headers.

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free** (or **Start**).
2. Enter your input (see the example below) and click **Save & Start**.
3. Download results as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read them via the API.

### Input

- `urls` — Websites to analyze, one per line. Bare domains get `https://`.
- `concurrency` — Parallel requests (default 10).
- `timeoutSecs` — Timeout per site in seconds (default 20).

Example input:

```json
{
  "urls": [
    "apify.com",
    "wordpress.org",
    "shopify.com"
  ]
}
```

### Output example

| url | status | technologies | cms | ecommerce | server |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| https://shopify.com | 200 | Shopify, React, Tailwind CSS, Cloudflare, HSTS, HTTP/3 |  | Shopify | cloudflare |
| https://apify.com | 200 | HubSpot CMS, Next.js, Bootstrap, Google Tag Manager, Intercom, HubSpot, Amazon CloudFront, … | HubSpot CMS |  |  |

All output fields: `url`, `finalUrl`, `status`, `technologies` (list), `categories` (object: category → technologies), `cms`, `ecommerce`, `analytics`, `server`, `poweredBy`, `generator`, `error`

### How much does it cost?

This Actor uses **pay-per-event** pricing. You pay only for results, not for servers or subscriptions:

- **$0.002 per URL analyzed**, which is **$2.00 per 1,000 websites**
- plus Apify's standard **Actor start** event of $0.00005 per run (per GB of memory; the default 512 MB memory = one event)

| You process | You pay (approx.) |
|---|---|
| 100 websites | $0.20 |
| 1,000 websites | $2.00 |
| 10,000 websites | $20.00 |

Apify's free plan includes monthly platform credit, which is enough to try this Actor at no cost.

### Run it via API, schedule or AI agents

Run from your own code with the Apify API, JavaScript or Python client, schedule it in Apify Console, connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n or Google Sheets, or let an AI agent call it through the Apify MCP server (`https://mcp.apify.com`).

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/quillbit-tools~tech-stack-detector/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"urls": ["apify.com", "wordpress.org", "shopify.com"]}'
```

### FAQ

**Which technologies are detected?**
CMS (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Ghost, HubSpot CMS, Framer, Contentful, Sanity, Blogger, Weebly), ecommerce (Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, PrestaShop, Ecwid), JS frameworks (React, Next.js, Vue.js, Nuxt, Angular, Svelte, SvelteKit, Remix, Astro, Gatsby, Ember), analytics (Google Analytics, Hotjar, Clarity, Plausible, Matomo, Segment, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Heap, PostHog…), pixels, live chat, CDN, hosting, web servers and backend frameworks — 115 signatures in total.

**How accurate is it?**
It reports a technology only when its fingerprint (script URL, meta generator, cookie or header) is present in the homepage HTML or headers. Technologies loaded only after JavaScript runs, or only on inner pages, can be missed. Run it on a specific inner URL if needed.

**Does it use a browser?**
No. One plain HTTP request per URL, which is why it costs $2 per 1,000 sites.

**What am I charged for?**
One `url-analyzed` event per unique URL, including sites that fail (DNS error, timeout).

**Can I filter for one technology?**
Yes. Filter the dataset on `technologies` or `ecommerce` / `cms` in Excel, Google Sheets or via the API.
