## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain & SSL Expiry Monitor - Bulk Renewal Alerts

Never lose a domain or get a "Your connection is not private" warning because of a missed renewal. Give this Actor a list of domains and it checks **both the domain registration and the SSL certificate** in one run, then tells you what is **expired, expiring soon, untrusted, or available to register**.

Domain data comes from official **RDAP** registries (the modern replacement for WHOIS). The SSL check reads the live HTTPS certificate. No API key, no proxies, no scraping of web pages.

### Who it's for

- Agencies, freelancers and IT teams managing client domains and websites
- Schools, businesses and NGOs with several domains to renew
- Domain investors and SEO people tracking expiry and age
- Anyone who wants a weekly "what needs renewing?" report

### What you get for every domain

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `overall_risk` | Worst of domain and SSL: `expired`, `critical` (7 days or less), `invalid`, `expiring_soon`, `ok`, `available`, `unknown` |
| `days_to_expiry`, `expiry_date` | Domain registration expiry |
| `creation_date`, `age_years`, `registrar` | Domain age and current registrar |
| `nameservers`, `dnssec_signed`, `attention_flags` | DNS setup and registry statuses worth a look (hold, redemption...) |
| `ssl_days_to_expiry`, `ssl_expiry_date` | Certificate expiry |
| `ssl_valid`, `ssl_error` | Whether browsers trust the certificate, and why not |
| `ssl_issuer`, `ssl_hostname_match`, `tls_version` | Certificate details |
| `available` | `true` only if the registry itself confirms the name is not registered |

### Quick start

1. Paste your domains (plain names or full URLs, up to 5,000 per run).
2. Set the alert window (default 30 days).
3. Run it, or put it on a **Schedule** (for example weekly).
4. Turn on **only show risky domains** and add an Apify **email or Slack integration** so you are notified only when something needs attention.

#### Example input

```json
{
  "domains": ["example.com", "https://www.my-school.com.pk/", "my-brand.io"],
  "expiryAlertDays": 45,
  "checkSsl": true,
  "onlyShowRisky": true
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event:

- **$0.003 per domain checked** (about $3 per 1,000)
- **$0.002 per SSL certificate read** (switch off with `checkSsl: false`)

Invalid inputs, failed lookups and domains with no HTTPS are **not charged**. With "only show risky domains" enabled, healthy domains are not charged either.

### Notes and limits

- RDAP coverage depends on the TLD: most gTLDs and many country TLDs support it. TLDs with no RDAP service (for example `.pk`) return `unsupported_tld`: the domain-expiry part is skipped (not charged), but the SSL check still runs.
- You can list subdomains (for example `shop.example.com`). Each host gets its own SSL check, and the domain registration is looked up once for the registered domain.
- Some registries hide the expiry date. Then `expiry_date` is empty and `risk` is `unknown`.
- The SSL check tries the bare domain first, then `www.`. Domains with no website (email-only) show `no_https`.
- Only public registry and certificate data is used. No personal contact data is collected.
- Keep **parallel lookups** at 5 or lower for big lists to stay friendly to registries.

### Support

Found a TLD or site that doesn't work? Open an issue from the Actor page and include the domain; fixes are usually quick.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

List of domains or URLs to check, e.g. example.com or https://www.example.org/page. Up to 5,000 per run.

## `expiryAlertDays` (type: `integer`):

Domains and SSL certificates expiring within this many days are marked 'expiring_soon' (7 days or less is 'critical').

## `onlyShowRisky` (type: `boolean`):

If enabled, healthy domains are skipped and not charged. Output only contains expired, expiring, invalid-SSL, available or failed-lookup domains.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many domains to check at the same time. Keep low to avoid registry rate limits.

## `checkSsl` (type: `boolean`):

Also read each domain's HTTPS certificate (expiry date, issuer, trust). Charged separately for each certificate read.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "example.com",
    "google.com",
    "this-domain-should-not-exist-12345.com"
  ],
  "expiryAlertDays": 30,
  "onlyShowRisky": false,
  "concurrency": 5,
  "checkSsl": true
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Table of all checked domains with expiry dates and risk.

## `summary` (type: `string`):

Counts of checked, risky and available domains.

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("quillthebeast/domain-ssl-expiry-monitor").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
