## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Recall Radar - FDA & CPSC Recall Monitor by Company

Give this Actor a list of **companies, suppliers or brands** and it checks all of them against **US FDA recalls (food, drug, device)** and **CPSC consumer-product recalls** in one run. You get one clean table: what was recalled, when, why, and the official link.

Data comes from official US government open data (openFDA and the CPSC recall service). No API key needed, no scraping of web pages.

### Who it's for

- Amazon, Shopify and retail sellers vetting suppliers and brands
- Importers, distributors and procurement teams
- Compliance and quality teams who want a weekly "anything new?" check
- Insurers, journalists and researchers

### How to use

1. Paste company or brand names (3+ letters each).
2. Choose how far back to look (default 365 days).
3. Run it, or put it on a **Schedule** (weekly) and add an Apify email or Slack integration.

#### Example input

```json
{
  "companies": ["Fisher-Price", "Nestle", "Peloton"],
  "lookbackDays": 365,
  "includeFda": true,
  "includeCpsc": true
}
```

### What you get

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `company` | The name you searched for |
| `source` | `CPSC`, `FDA-food`, `FDA-drug` or `FDA-device` |
| `result` | `recall`, `no_recalls` (clean) or `lookup_failed` (not charged) |
| `recall_date`, `recall_id` | Date and official recall number |
| `title`, `product`, `reason` | What was recalled and why / the hazard |
| `classification`, `status` | FDA class (I-III) and status |
| `firm`, `url` | Recalling firm and official CPSC link |
| `matched_in` | Where your name was found (title, manufacturer, product...) |

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.01 per company checked** (about $10 per 1,000 companies), covering all selected sources. Companies whose lookup failed are **not charged**.

### Notes and limits

- Matching is by name. A short or common name can match unrelated recalls; check the `matched_in` and `firm` columns.
- NHTSA vehicle recalls are not included yet (that service cannot search by company name).
- Without an openFDA key the FDA service allows a limited number of requests per day from shared addresses. For very large lists, add a free key from open.fda.gov.
- This is public recall information, not legal or safety advice. Always confirm on the official FDA or CPSC site.

### Support

Found a company that should match but doesn't? Open an issue from the Actor page and include the name.
