## Pricing

from $2.24 / 1,000 screenshots

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store Screenshot Text Scraper

Read the **words on App Store and Google Play screenshots**. ASO and product marketing teams use it to see which features a competitor claims on the store listing images, without clicking through every screen.

Paste a public app URL from `apps.apple.com` or `play.google.com`. Each screenshot becomes one dataset row. No store login is required.

### What can this screenshot text scraper do?

- Accept Apple App Store and Google Play app URLs in the same run.
- Collect the phone screenshots shown on the public app page.
- Optionally include iPad screenshots for Apple apps.
- Transcribe the text printed on each screenshot.
- List the feature claims that screenshot is making.
- Cap screenshots per app with `maxItems`.
- Export JSON, CSV, or Excel and schedule a repeat through Apify.

`maxItems` counts screenshots per app URL. Two apps with a cap of 3 can save up to six rows.

### What data can you extract?

| Field | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| imageUrl | Screenshot that was read |
| text | Visible text, in reading order |
| features | Short feature claims on that screen |
| appName | App name |
| store | `app-store` or `google-play` |
| appId | Apple numeric id or Android package name |
| appUrl | App page you provided |

### How to read app store screenshots

1. Open the app on the App Store or Google Play and copy the URL.
2. Paste it into **Start URLs**. Add the other store if you want both.
3. Set **Maximum images**. The default is 3 so a test stays small.
4. Turn on **Include iPad screenshots** only when you want the tablet set too.
5. Start the run and download the dataset.

An Apple URL looks like `https://apps.apple.com/us/app/whatsapp-messenger/id310633997`. A Play URL looks like `https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp`.

### Use cases

- List the features a competitor prints on the first three screens.
- Compare the same app on Apple and Google.
- Check whether a new version still claims offline mode.
- Collect screenshot copy before a positioning review.
- Sample a category of apps with one URL each.
- Watch one listing on a schedule.
- Hand the text to a messaging spreadsheet.
- See which screens lead with price.
- Confirm a localized storefront changed the headline.
- Build a sheet of package names beside their on-screen claims.

### Pricing

Platform usage is included.

| Charge | Free plan |
| --- | --- |
| Actor start | $0.00005 |
| App page with a reading | $1.99 per 1,000 pages |
| Screenshot read | $2.99 per 1,000 screenshots |

Paid plans are cheaper. Keep `maxItems` small while you test.

### FAQ

**Does this need an Apple or Google login?** No. Public app pages are enough.

**Why did my URL get skipped?** It must be an `apps.apple.com` app link with an id, or a Play details link with an `id` package name.

**Are iPad screenshots included?** Only when **Include iPad screenshots** is on. They count toward `maxItems`.
