# Domain WHOIS & DNS Lookup (RDAP, Expiry, MX, SPF) (`rakish_bobby_gwr/domain-whois-dns`) Actor

Bulk domain lookup: registration and expiry dates, days until expiry, registrar, status, nameservers, DNSSEC (official RDAP, the successor of WHOIS) plus DNS records (A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT, CAA), SPF, DMARC and the email provider. For domain portfolio monitoring, lead enrichment and security checks.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain WHOIS & DNS Lookup (RDAP, Expiry, MX, SPF)

Look up any number of domains and get their **registration data** (registered or not, registrar, creation, last change and **expiry dates**, days until expiry, EPP status, nameservers, DNSSEC) and their **DNS records** (A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT, CAA) with **SPF**, **DMARC** and the detected **email provider** (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho, Proofpoint...).

Registration data comes from RDAP, the official, structured successor of WHOIS run by the registries themselves (server list from IANA). DNS comes from DNS-over-HTTPS. No scraping of WHOIS websites, no rate-limited text parsing: eight domains took under 2 seconds in our tests.

### What you can do with it

- **Domain portfolio monitoring**: schedule it monthly and alert on `daysUntilExpiry` below 30.
- **Lead enrichment**: which email provider a company uses (MX), whether it has SPF and DMARC.
- **Email deliverability and security checks**: SPF, DMARC, CAA and DNSSEC at scale.
- **Domain availability**: `registered: false` means the registry has no record of the domain.
- **Due diligence**: domain age, registrar and status of partners or suspicious sites.

### Input

```json
{
    "domains": ["apify.com", "https://www.bbc.co.uk/news", "trendyol.com"],
    "includeWhois": true,
    "includeDns": true
}
```

URLs and subdomains are reduced to the registrable domain (`https://www.bbc.co.uk/news` → `bbc.co.uk`).

### Pricing

$1.50 per 1,000 domains. Invalid inputs are reported with an `error` field and are not charged.

### Limits

- Some country registries (for example .de, .io, .tr) do not run a public RDAP service. For those domains you get DNS data, `registered` is inferred from DNS, and `note` explains why registration data is missing.
- Registrant names, emails and phone numbers are not collected; most registries redact them anyway. Only a public registrant organization and country are returned when available.

### Disclaimer

This Actor is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by IANA, any domain registry or Google. It only collects publicly available data; make sure your use complies with the applicable terms and laws.
