## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Brand Name Availability Checker — Domains + USPTO Trademarks

Check whether a business or product name is actually **free to use** in one step: **domain availability** (.com, .net, .org, .ai, .io, .co and 1,000+ other extensions) **plus live US trademark conflicts** from the USPTO. Paste up to 2,000 names and get a clear verdict for each.

### Why use it

- **Two checks, one run.** Most tools only check domains. A free .com means nothing if someone already owns the trademark.
- **Bulk naming.** Brainstorm 50 names with ChatGPT, paste them in, keep the ones marked GREAT.
- **Official sources.** Domains come from the registries' own RDAP service (the modern WHOIS); trademarks come from the USPTO's trademark search database.
- **Registrar and expiry dates** for taken domains, so you can spot names that might drop soon.

### Who it's for

Founders and startups, Etsy / Shopify / Amazon sellers, naming and branding agencies, app developers, domain investors, and anyone launching a product.

### Verdicts

| Verdict | Meaning |
|---|---|
| **GREAT** | The .com is available and no conflicting live trademarks were found |
| **GOOD** | The .com is taken, but other extensions are free and no strong trademark conflict was found |
| **RISKY** | A live trademark contains this name or the name contains a multi-word mark — review before using |
| **AVOID** | A live trademark matches this name |
| **TAKEN** | Every checked domain is registered |

### Example input

```json
{
  "names": ["Tasty Brew Co", "Zorbly Labs", "Mama Bear"],
  "tlds": ["com", "io", "ai"],
  "trademarkClasses": ["30", "43"],
  "suggestVariations": true
}
```

### Output (one row per name)

```json
{
  "name": "Zorbly Labs",
  "domainLabel": "zorblylabs",
  "verdict": "GREAT",
  "summary": "The .com is available and no conflicting live trademarks were found.",
  "comStatus": "AVAILABLE",
  "availableDomains": ["zorblylabs.com", "zorblylabs.io", "zorblylabs.ai"],
  "takenDomains": [],
  "domains": [
    { "domain": "zorblylabs.com", "status": "AVAILABLE", "method": "rdap" },
    { "domain": "zorblylabs.io", "status": "LIKELY_AVAILABLE", "method": "dns" }
  ],
  "trademarkRisk": "NONE_FOUND",
  "trademarkSummary": "No live matching trademarks found in the selected classes.",
  "trademarkConflicts": [],
  "trademarkClassesChecked": "ALL"
}
```

Taken domains include `registrar`, `created` and `expires` dates where the registry provides them.

### Domain status values

- **AVAILABLE** — the official registry (RDAP) says the domain isn't registered.
- **REGISTERED** — the domain is taken.
- **LIKELY_AVAILABLE** — for extensions without a public RDAP service (e.g. .io, .co), the domain has no DNS records. Almost always available; confirm at checkout.
- **UNKNOWN** — the registry didn't answer; try again later.

### Pricing

**$5 per 1,000 names checked** ($0.005 per name) — every extension you choose and the trademark check are included. Set a maximum cost per run and the Actor stops cleanly when it's reached.

### Notes

- Trademark check covers **US federal (USPTO)** marks only and uses text matching; it doesn't judge logos or "likelihood of confusion."
- Premium or reserved domains may show as available in RDAP but cost more at registrars.
- **Not legal advice.** For an important brand, have a trademark attorney run a full clearance search.

# Actor input Schema

## `names` (type: `array`):

Business, product, app or shop names to check. One per line, up to 2,000 per run. You can also enter a full domain like acme.io.

## `tlds` (type: `array`):

Extensions to check for each name, e.g. com, net, org, io, co, ai, app, dev, shop, store. Most extensions are checked against the official registry (RDAP). A few, like .io and .co, have no public RDAP, so they're checked via DNS and marked LIKELY_AVAILABLE.

## `checkTrademarks` (type: `boolean`):

Also look for live US trademarks that match or contain the name.

## `trademarkClasses` (type: `array`):

Limit the trademark check to these international classes (e.g. 25 clothing, 30 coffee/food, 35 retail, 9 software, 42 SaaS, 43 restaurants). Leave empty to check all classes.

## `suggestVariations` (type: `boolean`):

Also check common .com variations: get{name}, try{name}, {name}hq, {name}app, the{name}, {name}co.

## `includeHyphenated` (type: `boolean`):

For multi-word names, also check the hyphenated version (tasty-brew-co.com).

## `maxConflictsListed` (type: `integer`):

How many conflicting trademarks to include per name.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many domain lookups to run at once.
