## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## ClinicalTrials.gov Studies Export

Export normalized public study records from the official ClinicalTrials.gov API. This Actor is built for clinical intelligence, market research, trial monitoring, sponsor tracking, RAG pipelines, and regulatory research workflows.

### What it does

- Searches ClinicalTrials.gov by broad term, condition, intervention, sponsor, and location.
- Saves one normalized dataset item per public study record.
- Extracts study status, titles, dates, sponsors, collaborators, conditions, interventions, design details, eligibility, and locations.
- Omits study contact names, emails, phone numbers, and patient-level data.
- Uses no browser, no proxy, no login, and no API key.

### Input example

```json
{
  "condition": "asthma",
  "overallStatus": "RECRUITING",
  "studyType": "INTERVENTIONAL",
  "phase": "ANY",
  "includeBriefSummary": true,
  "includeEligibility": true,
  "includeLocations": true,
  "maxLocationsPerStudy": 20,
  "maxResults": 50
}
```

### Output example

```json
{
  "nctId": "NCT06837584",
  "studyUrl": "https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT06837584",
  "briefTitle": "Control and Treatment of Outpatient Children With Asthma",
  "overallStatus": "NOT_YET_RECRUITING",
  "conditions": ["Asthma"],
  "leadSponsor": "Beijing Children's Hospital",
  "design": {
    "studyType": "OBSERVATIONAL",
    "phases": [],
    "enrollmentCount": 300
  },
  "interventions": [],
  "locationCountries": ["China"],
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-13T00:00:00.000Z"
}
```

### Notes and limits

The Actor uses the public ClinicalTrials.gov API v2 endpoint:

- `https://clinicaltrials.gov/api/v2/studies`

Requests are limited to one request per second. Filters for study status, type, and phase are applied after retrieval so the Actor can remain stable even when API search syntax changes.

### Suggested pricing

Use pay-per-result pricing at **US$0.002 per study** (US$2.00 per 1,000 results).

Cost estimate:

- ClinicalTrials.gov returns up to 100 studies per API page in this Actor.
- A 1,000-result run needs about 10 API requests.
- No browser and no proxy are used, so platform cost should usually stay below US$0.20 per 1,000 results.
- At US$2.00 per 1,000 results, there is room for Apify's platform fee and the creator's execution cost.

### Compliance posture

This Actor collects public clinical study registry records. It does not collect patient data, does not automate login, does not submit forms, and intentionally omits contact names, emails, and phone numbers.

### Data source and notices

Data comes from the public ClinicalTrials.gov API (U.S. National Library of Medicine). This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by NLM, NIH or ClinicalTrials.gov. It omits names, emails and phone numbers of study contacts.
