## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Italian Schools Directory – Contacts, PEC & MIUR Open Data

**Every Italian school in one clean table: 61,000+ state schools (*statali*) and recognised private schools (*paritarie*), each with email, PEC (certified email), website, address and official school code (*codice meccanografico*).**

The data comes straight from the official open data of the Italian Ministry of Education and Merit (MIM, formerly MIUR), current school year 2026/27. There's no scraping, no proxies and no blocking: the Actor downloads the latest official datasets on each run, filters them your way and returns a ready-to-use list for Excel, CSV, JSON or the API.

#### What does the Italian Schools Directory do?

- Downloads the **latest** Ministry registers of state and paritarie schools, picking the newest file on each run.
- Filters by **school type, region, province, city, level and name**.
- Normalises emails, websites and levels, and adds a simple `stage` field (infanzia, primaria, secondaria I/II grado…).
- Fills in the standard **institute PEC** for state schools, which the Ministry CSV leaves out, and flags it with `pecIsDerived: true`.
- Can return **one row per institute** (the *sede di direttivo*, i.e. the principal's office) instead of every branch.

#### Who is it for?

- **EdTech and software companies** selling to schools.
- **School textbook publishers** and educational content creators.
- **School trip, sports and summer camp organisers.**
- **Suppliers** of furniture, IT, cleaning, canteens and safety equipment.
- **Training providers, associations and unions** reaching principals and teachers.
- **Researchers, journalists and public bodies** who need counts by level, city or region.
- **CRM / data teams** matching the official school code to their records.

#### Export and integrations

Download results as **Excel, CSV, JSON, XML or HTML**, or connect them through the Apify API, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make and webhooks. **Schedule the Actor monthly** to keep your list in step with the Ministry's updates.

#### Pricing

Pay per result: you pay only for the schools returned. See the **Pricing** tab for the current rate. Use the filters and `maxResults` to control cost, since a small test run costs very little.

#### FAQ

**How many schools are included?**
About 61,600 in the 2026/27 files: roughly 50,300 state school sites and 11,300 paritarie.

**How fresh is the data?**
Each run downloads the newest file the Ministry has published, so the data is as current as the official source.

**Why are some PEC addresses marked `pecIsDerived: true`?**
The Ministry CSV doesn't publish PEC for state schools. The Actor fills in the standard institute PEC `<institutecode>@pec.istruzione.it` and flags it.

**Can I get one contact per institute instead of every branch?**
Yes: set `onlyMainSites: true`. This applies to state schools, where each institute has one headquarters (*sede di direttivo*).

**Are teachers' or principals' personal emails included?**
No. These are institutional school addresses published by the Ministry. Paritarie may list addresses that belong to individuals: treat those as personal data.

**Can I use the data commercially?**
The datasets are released under IODL 2.0, which allows commercial reuse with attribution (see *Source & licence*). If you send communications, the GDPR and anti-spam rules apply (see *Legal note*).

**Is it a scraper? Will it get blocked?**
No. It reads official open-data files, with no proxies and no login.

#### Limits

- Schools in the autonomous provinces of **Trento and Bolzano** and in **Valle d'Aosta** are not in the Ministry datasets, because they are managed locally.
- No phone numbers, principal names or student counts: the Ministry registry doesn't include them.
- Some schools publish no website or email; those fields are `null`. Use `onlyWithEmail: true` to skip them.
- Data quality (typos, outdated websites) reflects the official source.

#### More official open data Actors

- **[Italian Hotels & Agriturismi Directory – Puglia & Veneto](https://apify.com/reckoning89/italian-accommodation-directory)**: 7,400+ licensed hotels, agriturismi, campsites and resorts in Puglia and Veneto with phone, email, website, stars and national CIN code, from the official open data of the two Regions (CC BY 4.0). Useful together with this Actor for school trips, hospitality schools (*istituti alberghieri*) and education tourism.

#### Source & licence

**Fonte: Ministero dell'Istruzione e del Merito, Portale Unico dei Dati della Scuola, licenza IODL 2.0**

Data: Ministero dell'Istruzione e del Merito – Portale Unico dei Dati della Scuola (https://dati.istruzione.it/opendata/), datasets *Anagrafe scuole statali* and *Anagrafe scuole paritarie*, released under the **Italian Open Data License v2.0 (IODL 2.0)**, which allows commercial reuse with attribution. Each record includes `sourceFile`. This Actor is not affiliated with the Ministry.

#### Legal note (GDPR) – usage notice

**The emails and PEC addresses are institutional contacts. Anyone using them to send communications must comply with the GDPR and anti-spam rules.** Every output item carries the `source` attribution and a `usageNote` field.

The data are institutional contacts of schools published by a public authority. If you use them for marketing, you are the data controller: respect GDPR, Art. 130 of the Italian Privacy Code (prior consent for unsolicited email marketing) and offer an easy opt-out. Paritarie may list contact addresses of individuals – handle them as personal data.

#### Domande frequenti
