## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Whois Domain Lookup Pro

Bulk whois and domain availability over **official registry RDAP**. One run handles up to 500 domains: registrar, creation and expiration dates, days to expiry, domain statuses, nameservers, DNSSEC and registrar abuse contact. An availability filter lets you pay only for the rows you actually asked for.

**How it compares:** the category's biggest whois actor, [agenscrape/whois-domain-lookup](https://apify.com/agenscrape/whois-domain-lookup), serves ~67 users in the last 30 days, has zero reviews, and raised its price to $2.50 per 1,000 results. Whois Domain Lookup Pro matches that price while adding bulk runs (up to 500 domains), server-side availability filtering (filtered rows are never charged), days-to-expiry, DNSSEC and abuse-contact fields the incumbent does not return.

### Who it's for

- **Domain investors and drop-catchers**: check availability for whole candidate lists in one run and pay only for confirmed-available rows.
- **SEO and brand teams**: audit registrar, expiry dates and days-to-expiry across competitor or brand-domain portfolios.
- **Security and trust teams**: pull registrar abuse contacts and DNSSEC posture for takedown and enrichment pipelines.

### Input

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `domains` | array of strings | Up to 500 domains per run, e.g. `google.com`, `mystartup.io`. Duplicates and URLs are cleaned automatically. |
| `availability` | select | `all` (default), `registered`, or `available`. Filtering happens before charging: with `available`, you pay only for domains confirmed unregistered. |
| `includeRaw` | boolean | Add the full raw registry RDAP object per domain. |

### Output

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `domain` | string | The queried domain. |
| `tld` | string | Its TLD. |
| `available` | boolean | True when the registry reports no registration. Null when it cannot be confirmed. |
| `verdict` | string | `registered`, `available`, `unknown` or `error`. |
| `registrar` | string | Current registrar. |
| `abuseEmail` | string | Registrar abuse contact where the registry publishes one. |
| `registrantName` / `registrantEmail` | string | Only when the registry publishes them (most modern registries redact). |
| `createdAt` / `expiresAt` | date | Registration and expiration timestamps. |
| `lastChangedAt` | date | Last record change. |
| `daysToExpiry` | number | Days until expiration (negative = already expired). |
| `statuses` | array | EPP statuses, e.g. `clientTransferProhibited`. |
| `nameservers` | array | Authoritative nameservers. |
| `dnssec` | boolean | Whether DNSSEC is signed at delegation. |
| `source` | string | Which RDAP service answered. |

### Pricing

Pay per event, matching the category leader: **$0.005 per run** plus **$0.0025 per domain row ($2.50 per 1,000)**. Filtered rows are removed before charging, so an `available`-only run charges nothing for domains that turn out registered.

### FAQ

**How current is the data?** Each row comes live from the domain's authoritative registry RDAP service at run time, so answers reflect the registry's own database (rows include the registry's `last update of RDAP database` timestamp via `lastChangedAt` when nothing else changed).

**Which TLDs work?** Every TLD whose registry publishes RDAP: all gTLDs (.com, .net, .dev, .app, .ai, .xyz and 1,200+ more in the IANA RDAP bootstrap). Some ccTLDs (.io, .co, .me, .edu) publish no public RDAP yet; for those the row comes back `unknown` with an explanation rather than a false answer.

**What does `unknown` mean?** The verdict could not be confirmed from a registry (no RDAP service for that TLD, or a transient registry error). The row explains why in `error`.

**Can I use this to find expiring domains?** Yes: sort by `daysToExpiry` for renewal windows and acquisition timing.

**Is bulk cheaper than one domain per run?** One $0.005 start charge covers up to 500 domains, so larger lists amortize the start fee.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Up to 500 domains per run, e.g. google.com, mystartup.io. Duplicates are removed automatically.

## `availability` (type: `string`):

Keep only the rows you want. Filtered rows are removed before the run charges per result, so you never pay for rows you filtered out. Great for bulk availability checks: pick Available only and pay just for the domains that are actually free.

## `includeRaw` (type: `boolean`):

Add the full raw registry RDAP object for each domain (useful for fields not parsed above).

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "google.com",
    "this-domain-is-free-for-sure-9k2f7.com"
  ],
  "availability": "all",
  "includeRaw": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per domain: registration verdict, registrar, creation/expiry dates, days to expiry, statuses, nameservers, DNSSEC and abuse contact.
