## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

### Questions it answers

- What do people type after my keyword, and in which order does Google rank it?
- Which questions (how, what, why, can) do people ask about a topic?
- Which long-tail variants of a keyword exist in Germany, the UK or the UAE?
- What do viewers type into the YouTube search box for my niche?

### Who uses this

- 🔎 **SEO and content teams:** build keyword lists and FAQ sections from real search suggestions.
- 🎬 **YouTube creators:** find video topics from YouTube's own search box.
- 📈 **Marketers and PPC managers:** collect comparison searches ("x vs y") and long-tail terms.
- 🤖 **Developers and AI agents:** feed a keyword tool, a spreadsheet or an agent with structured suggestions.

### Why this Google Autocomplete Scraper

- ❓ **Question mode:** expand with how, what, why and more, and keep only real questions with one tick.
- 📊 **Relevance score and type:** every suggestion carries Google's own relevance number and whether it is a query or a site link.
- 🌍 **Any market:** set the country and language, for example `de` and `de`.
- 🎬 **Five search boxes:** Google Search, YouTube, Images, News and Shopping.
- 🏷️ **$0.60 per 1,000 suggestions:** one charge per suggestion, no start fee.

### How to use the Google Autocomplete Scraper

1. Click **Try for free** (a free Apify account is enough).
2. Enter your seed keywords, one per line.
3. Optional: choose the sources, the expansions (a-z, questions, prepositions), the country and the language.
4. Click **Start**, then download as JSON, CSV or Excel, or schedule it to track suggestions over time.

### Input

| Field | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `keywords` | – | Seed keywords, one per line. Required. |
| `sources` | `google` | Which search box to ask: `google`, `youtube`, `images`, `news`, `shopping`. |
| `expansions` | – | Extra lookups: `alphabet` (keyword + a-z), `alphabetBefore` (a-z + keyword), `questions`, `prepositions`. |
| `onlyQuestions` | `false` | Keep only suggestions phrased as a question. |
| `country` | `us` | Two-letter country of the searcher. |
| `language` | `en` | Language of the suggestions. |
| `maxItems` | 200 | Suggestions per keyword and source (max 5,000). |

Example (the input behind the output below):

```json
{ "keywords": ["intermittent fasting"], "expansions": ["questions"], "onlyQuestions": true, "maxItems": 6 }
```

### Output

One row per suggestion. A real row from that run:

```json
{
  "seed": "intermittent fasting",
  "suggestion": "how intermittent fasting works",
  "source": "google",
  "position": 1,
  "relevance": 1250,
  "suggestionType": "QUERY",
  "description": null,
  "isQuestion": true,
  "wordCount": 4,
  "expandedFrom": "how intermittent fasting",
  "language": "en",
  "country": "US",
  "searchQuery": "intermittent fasting"
}
```

- `position` is the rank inside the lookup that found the suggestion. `expandedFrom` is that lookup, and `null` for the plain suggestions of your keyword.
- `relevance` is the score Google returns with the suggestion. Higher means more prominent. It is not a search volume.
- `suggestionType` is `QUERY`, or `NAVIGATION` for a site link. `description` is filled when Google shows one.
- `searchQuery` is the keyword (and source, when you use several) a row came from. A failed search adds one row with an `error` field and no charge.

### Example tasks

Ready-made inputs you can open, change and run:

- [Find the questions people ask about a topic](https://apify.com/redfoxscout/google-autocomplete-scraper/examples/google-autocomplete-questions-people-ask)

### How much does it cost?

$0.60 per 1,000 suggestions.

- 200 suggestions: about $0.12
- 10,000 suggestions: about $6.00
- Failed searches and error rows: free. A suggestion found twice for the same keyword is charged once.

Apify's free plan gives $5 of credit every month, enough for about 8,300 suggestions.

### FAQ

**Is this legal?** The Actor reads the suggestions that Google and YouTube show to any visitor typing into the search box. It does not log in, use cookies or accounts, solve CAPTCHAs, or collect personal data. This is not legal advice, so check the terms and rules that apply to how you use the data.

**Does it return search volume?** No. Autocomplete shows what people search for, ranked by Google, but not how often. The `relevance` score orders suggestions and is not a volume.

**How many suggestions can one keyword return?** A plain lookup returns about 10 to 15. A-z expansion adds 26 lookups, question words 13 and prepositions 13, so one keyword can return several hundred unique suggestions.

**Why do some suggestions look odd in question mode?** Question mode puts the question word in front of your keyword ("how intermittent fasting works"). Google completes it as people type it.
