## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SpareFoot Self-Storage Prices & Facilities Scraper

Pull self-storage facilities and their **current rent by unit size** from SpareFoot, city by city or state by state. One clean record per facility: address, GPS, rating, amenities, promotions and 5x5 / 5x10 / 10x10 prices, plus an optional full unit list.

### Who it's for

- **Storage investors, operators and REIT analysts** running rate surveys and market comps.
- **Acquisition scouts** screening markets for price levels, ratings and promotions.
- **Competitor and pricing teams** tracking street rate vs online rate and move-in specials.
- **Researchers and proptech tools** that need facility locations with coordinates.

### Input

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `cities` | e.g. `["Austin, TX", "Madison, WI"]`. Each city page returns about 20-30 facilities. |
| `states` | e.g. `["WI"]`: expands into that state's listed cities. |
| `maxCitiesPerState` | Cities scanned per state (default 10). |
| `startUrls` | Direct SpareFoot city page URLs. |
| `includeAllUnits` | Also open each facility to return every unit (size, features, prices). |
| `minRating` | Skip facilities rated below this. |
| `maxResults` | Cap on results (you pay per result). |

```json
{ "cities": ["Austin, TX"], "maxResults": 30 }
```

### Output

```json
{
  "facilityId": "223330",
  "name": "Extra Space Storage - 7556 - Madison - Ski Ln",
  "url": "https://www.sparefoot.com/Madison-WI-self-storage/...-223330.html",
  "street": "2712 Ski Lane", "city": "Madison", "state": "WI", "postalCode": "53713",
  "latitude": 43.032772, "longitude": -89.388245,
  "phone": "(608) 690-7015",
  "rating": 4.875, "reviewCount": 4,
  "promotion": null,
  "amenities": {"Climate Control": true, "Drive-Up Access": false, "Surveillance Cameras": true},
  "unitPrices": [
    {"size": "5x5", "standardPrice": 34.0, "onlinePrice": 30.0, "hasDeal": false},
    {"size": "10x10", "standardPrice": 112.0, "onlinePrice": 101.0, "hasDeal": false}
  ],
  "lowestOnlinePrice": 30.0,
  "allUnits": [{"size": "5x5", "features": "Climate controlled, Interior, Floor 1", "promotion": null, "onlinePrice": 37.0, "standardPrice": 41.0}]
}
```

`allUnits` appears only with `includeAllUnits`. Prices are monthly rent in USD at the time of the run.

### Pricing

Pay per result: **$4 per 1,000 facilities**. You are charged only for records saved. 100 facilities cost $0.40.

### Notes

- Data is read from public SpareFoot listing pages. Only business information is collected (facility name, address, business phone, aggregate rating); no customer reviews or personal data.
- Each city page shows the top ~20-30 facilities, so for dense metros run several neighbouring cities.
- Schedule the actor weekly to build a rate history.

# Actor input Schema

## `cities` (type: `array`):

Cities as "City, ST", e.g. "Austin, TX". Each city page returns up to about 30 top facilities.

## `states` (type: `array`):

Two-letter state codes. Each state expands into its listed cities (see the cap below).

## `maxCitiesPerState` (type: `integer`):

How many cities of each state to scan.

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Direct SpareFoot city pages, e.g. https://www.sparefoot.com/Austin-TX-self-storage.html

## `includeAllUnits` (type: `boolean`):

Also open each facility page to return all units with size, features (climate controlled, drive-up, floor) and prices. Slower (about 1 second per facility).

## `minRating` (type: `number`):

Skip facilities rated below this (0-5). Unrated facilities are skipped when set.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum facilities to return (you pay per result).

  "includeAllUnits": false,
  "maxResults": 50
}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `results` (type: `string`):
All scraped records in the default dataset
## JavaScript example
```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';

// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',

// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("rejoiceful_xaphoon/sparefoot-storage-prices").call(input);

// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
