## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Apify Opportunity Radar

**Compare an Actor idea before you build it.** Search public Apify Store competitors, compare visible usage and pricing signals, and download a clear Excel report in English or French.

Built for Apify developers choosing their next Actor, agencies comparing alternatives, and product teams making an initial shortlist. **$0.10 per complete Excel report**, including all competitors returned in that report.

### Start with a working example

1. Open **Input** and enter your niche in **Theme or Actor idea**. The example uses **Google Maps**; replace it with your own idea.
2. Keep **Quick**, choose your report language and a maximum of 5–100 competitors.
3. Click **Start**. When the run finishes, open **Output** and click **Download the Excel report**.

The workbook downloads as `Opportunity_Radar.xlsx`. If the embedded preview does not open, open the download-page link in a new tab. JSON and CSV competitor records are also available in the run's default Dataset.

No external API key or proxy configuration is required. You need an Apify account to run the Actor.

### What you receive

| Result | What it helps you examine |
| --- | --- |
| Competitor list with Store links | Existing alternatives and their developers |
| Visible usage and pricing | Public activity and advertised pricing signals |
| Direct, partial and indirect classifications | How closely the selected Actors match your theme |
| Visual Excel summary | Compare the selected competitors and review the recommendation |
| Opportunity score and evidence confidence | Separate an initial market signal from the strength of its evidence |

The report provides a cautious **BUILD, WATCH or NO-GO** recommendation, localized in French reports. Use the supporting facts and source links to decide what to investigate next.

### Preview a real report

[Download the Google Maps sample Excel report](https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/51STxivvDZ55k3IcH/records/REPORT_XLSX?signature=eVs1Z1E22MYTaAJcA8F6\&attachment=true) — generated on September 4, 2026 from public Store data. This snapshot includes 20 selected competitors from 15 developers; it is not an exhaustive market count. Downloading this existing sample does not start a paid run.

### Example input

```json
{
  "theme": "Google Maps",
  "keywords": [],
  "analysisDepth": "quick",
  "maxCompetitors": 20,
  "includeIndirect": true,
  "reportLanguage": "en"
}
```

To compare an existing Actor, paste its public `https://apify.com/username/actor-name` URL into **Apify Actor URL** and clear **Theme or Actor idea**. Radar infers the theme from its public metadata and excludes the reference Actor from competitors. If the reference cannot be found, try a descriptive theme instead.

Add a few relevant keywords to broaden discovery. The maximum competitor count is a cap, not a guaranteed result count. Both report languages search the **worldwide Apify Store**.

### Price

One **complete report costs $0.10**, whether it contains 5, 20 or 100 competitors. There is no separate Actor-start or per-competitor event. Empty, incomplete or failed analyses do not trigger the complete-report event. Set your maximum run charge to at least $0.10.

### Understand the limits

- This is an initial comparison of public Store data, not a full market study. Results depend on search terms, public metadata and the chosen cap.
- Visible users are not confirmed paying customers. Usage summed across Actors is not a count of unique people across the market.
- Prices may use different billing units; inspect each competitor's pricing before comparing costs.
- The opportunity score is a heuristic, not a probability of success or a revenue forecast. Evidence confidence is capped at 80/100. Technical feasibility includes a provisional baseline and needs a separate source-access review.
- **Deep currently provides the same Store coverage as Quick.** It remains accepted for existing integrations and adds no page enrichment.
- Optional problem and customer fields record context; they do not validate willingness to pay. Regulatory options provide reference links, not legal research.
- An empty search is treated as uncertain, not proof that competition or demand is absent. Internal readiness fields are not an official Apify Quality Score or certification.

### Automation and outputs

Use the same input JSON through the Apify API or save a task with your preferred settings. Each run provides a fresh snapshot; keep previous reports to compare changes yourself.

- **Output:** download page for the Excel workbook.
- **Dataset:** normalized competitor records, exportable as JSON or CSV.
- **Key-value store:** `REPORT_XLSX` workbook, `DOWNLOAD.html` download page and `REPORT` structured analysis.

### Help and feedback

If a run fails or a competitor looks misclassified, open an issue on this Actor's **Issues** tab with the run ID and a non-sensitive description of the expected result. Do not include API tokens or private customer data.

**En français :** saisissez votre idée, choisissez **Français**, lancez l'analyse puis téléchargez le rapport dans **Output**. Le prix est de **0,10 $ par rapport complet**. Les résultats restent une aide à la décision fondée sur les données publiques du Store.

# Actor input Schema

## `theme` (type: `string`):

Describe the niche you want to compare, for example Google Maps reviews or job listings. For URL-based discovery, clear this field and enter a public Apify Actor URL below.

## `actorUrl` (type: `string`):

Paste a public Actor URL. Its metadata will define the theme and the reference Actor will be excluded from competitors.

## `problem` (type: `string`):

Optional context saved with the analysis; it does not validate demand or change the market score.

## `targetCustomer` (type: `string`):

Optional audience saved with the analysis; this does not identify or verify paying customers.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Optional synonyms or use cases that improve Store coverage.

## `reportLanguage` (type: `string`):

Changes only the report language. Opportunity Radar always searches the worldwide Apify Store.

## `regulatoryJurisdiction` (type: `string`):

Optional reference links to official sources. This does not search legal texts or verify compliance.

## `regulatoryCountry` (type: `string`):

Optional country label. This does not enable automated legal research.

## `analysisDepth` (type: `string`):

Both values currently use public Store metadata. Deep is retained for compatibility and does not add enrichment. Use Quick.

## `maxCompetitors` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of normalized competitor records saved to the Dataset.

## `includeIndirect` (type: `boolean`):

Include alternatives that solve part of the same need or use a different approach.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "theme": "Google Maps",
  "keywords": [],
  "reportLanguage": "fr",
  "regulatoryJurisdiction": "none",
  "analysisDepth": "quick",
  "maxCompetitors": 25,
  "includeIndirect": true
}
```
