## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

### Use cases

- Verify a supplier or customer's ABN, legal name and GST status before paying an invoice
- Build B2B lead lists of Australian businesses by name keyword and state
- Enrich CRM records with entity type, ACN, postcode and registered business names (KYB)
- Bulk-check a list of ABNs for cancelled or non-GST-registered entities
- Give AI agents a reliable "look up this Australian business" tool

### Input

| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| `names` | Business, entity or trading names to search, one query each (default `["woolworths"]`) |
| `abns` | ABNs to fetch directly; spaces are fine, invalid checksums are skipped |
| `activeOnly` | Only active ABNs in name searches (default `true`) |
| `state` | Keep only name-search results in `ACT`, `NSW`, `NT`, `QLD`, `SA`, `TAS`, `VIC` or `WA` |
| `maxResultsPerQuery` | Max ABN records per name searched, 1–200 (default `20`) |

### Pricing

Pay only for what you use: **US$0.005 per run + US$0.001 per result** (about US$1 per 1,000 results). The free Apify plan's monthly credits cover thousands of results, so you can try it at no cost.

### Feedback

Found a bug or want a field added? Open an issue on the **Issues** tab and it will be looked at quickly.

### Notes

Each name search returns up to 200 best-matching names from ABN Lookup; one record is returned per unique ABN (the first matching name is kept in `matchedName`). Records are fetched politely at about one request per second, so 100 results take roughly two minutes. `state` and `postcode` are the main business location as published (street addresses are not public). Trading names are historical: the register stopped updating them in 2012. Data comes from the public ABN Lookup website; this Actor is not affiliated with the Australian Business Register or the Australian Taxation Office.
