## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

Search [Trade Me](https://www.trademe.co.nz), New Zealand's largest online marketplace, and get clean JSON listings. Each listing comes with its title, price (Buy Now, asking price or current bid), region, suburb, closing date, image, whether it is an auction or a classified, and a direct link. You can filter by keyword, category and region, and choose any of Trade Me's sort orders.

### What you get

```
`price` is always the most useful single number for the listing, and `priceType` tells you what kind of price it is:
- `buy_now`: a fixed-price (Buy Now only) listing
- `current_bid`: an auction that has bids, showing the highest bid so far
- `starting_bid`: an auction with no bids yet, showing the opening price
- `asking`: a classified listing (common for cars, property and services), showing the asking price
Motors listings also include `attributes` such as odometer, engine size and body style. All dates are in ISO 8601 UTC.
### Use cases
- Price research and valuations for second-hand goods in New Zealand
- Reseller sourcing and flipping alerts: run it on a schedule with `sort` = `ExpiryDesc` to catch new listings
- Tracking auctions that close soon (`ExpiryAsc`) or attract the most bids (`BidsMost`)
- Comparing used car asking prices by region
- Feeding an AI agent that answers questions like "what do used e-bikes sell for on Trade Me in Wellington?"
### Input
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| `searchQuery` | Keywords, e.g. `bike`, `iphone 15`, `toyota hilux` (default `bike`) |
| `category` | Optional. A category name (`Electric bikes`), a path (`Sports/Cycling`) or a category number (`0005-0380-`) |
| `region` | Optional. A Trade Me region, e.g. `Auckland`, `Wellington`, `Canterbury`, `North Island`, or `New Zealand` (excludes international sellers) |
| `sort` | `Default` (best match), `PriceAsc`, `PriceDesc`, `BuyNowAsc`, `BuyNowDesc`, `BidsMost`, `ExpiryDesc` (latest), `ExpiryAsc` (closing soon), `FeaturedFirst`, `TitleAsc`, `LargestDiscount` |
| `maxResults` | Cap on the number of listings (default 30, maximum 2000) |
| `includeSponsored` | Untick to skip promoted listings (default on) |
### Pricing
Pay only for what you use: **US$0.005 per run + US$0.001 per result** (about US$1 per 1,000 results). The free Apify plan's monthly credits cover thousands of results, so you can try it at no cost.
### Feedback
Found a bug or want a field added? Open an issue on the **Issues** tab and it will be looked at quickly.
### Notes
Results come from Trade Me's public search, the same data anyone sees when browsing the site without logging in. The tool reads search result cards only, so full descriptions, seller details, and questions and answers are not included. Prices are in NZD. Trade Me sometimes repeats promoted listings across pages, and duplicates are removed automatically using `listingId`. Please use the data responsibly and respect Trade Me's terms of use. This Actor is not affiliated with Trade Me.
