## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Canada Vehicle Recalls Monitor (Transport Canada Open Data)

Get official Canadian vehicle safety recalls from the public **Transport Canada Vehicle
Recalls Database** API. Search by make (all models) or by make and model, for a model year
range, and get one clean JSON record per recall, with the issue, safety risk and corrective
action in English and French.

No API key, login or proxy needed: the data is Government of Canada open data.

### Why use it?

- **Dealers and used-car sellers:** check recalls on the makes and years you stock or import.
- **Parts sellers and repair shops:** watch new recalls on the systems you service
  (brakes, air bags, powertrain, steering).
- **Fleet, leasing and insurance data teams:** build a Canadian recall dataset and see how
  many units are affected per recall.
- **Journalists and researchers:** track recalls by make, system or manufacturer over time.
- **Automations:** schedule weekly with `recalledAfter`, and send new recalls to Make,
  Zapier, n8n, Google Sheets, Slack or an AI agent.
- Combine with the US data in the sister Actor *Vehicle Recalls Monitor (NHTSA Open Data)*
  for a North America view.

### What you get

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `recallNumber` | Transport Canada recall number |
| `recallDate` | Recall date (YYYY-MM-DD) |
| `make`, `manufacturer` | Make and manufacturer |
| `models`, `modelYears` | All affected models and model years found in your search |
| `manufacturerRecallNumber` | Manufacturer's own campaign number, when given |
| `category`, `system` | Vehicle category and affected system (e.g. Brakes, Air bags, Powertrain) |
| `notificationType` | e.g. Safety Mfr, Compliance, Inconsequential |
| `unitsAffected` | Number of vehicles affected in Canada |
| `description`, `descriptionFr` | Issue, safety risk and corrective action, in English and French |
| `sourceUrl` | Official Transport Canada recall page |
| `fetchedAt` | When the record was fetched |

### Input example

```json
{
  "makes": ["Tesla"],
  "vehicles": [{"make": "Ford", "model": "F-150"}],
  "yearFrom": 2023,
  "yearTo": 2024,
  "recalledAfter": "2025-01-01",
  "systemContains": "brake",
  "maxResults": 100
}
```

- Set `recalledAfter` and schedule the Actor (e.g. weekly) to receive only new recalls.
- Set `includeDetails` to `false` for a faster run with only number, date, models and years.

### Output sample

One dataset row per recall (text shortened here):

```json
{
  "recallNumber": "2025414",
  "make": "FORD",
  "manufacturer": "FORD",
  "recallDate": "2025-08-08",
  "models": ["F-150"],
  "modelYears": [2023, 2024],
  "manufacturerRecallNumber": "25S82",
  "category": "Light Truck & Van",
  "system": "Powertrain",
  "notificationType": "Safety Mfr",
  "unitsAffected": 22663,
  "description": "Issue: On certain trucks, the rear axle hub bolt(s) could break ... Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. ... Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail ...",
  "descriptionFr": "Problème : Sur certains camions, le ou les boulons de moyeu d'essieu arrière pourraient se briser ...",
  "sourceUrl": "https://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/7/VRDB-BDRV/search-recherche/detail.aspx?lang=eng&rn=2025414",
  "fetchedAt": "2026-10-21T13:28:16+00:00"
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.002 per recall record** ($2 per 1,000 records). No monthly rental.
`maxResults` caps both results and cost, and the run stops cleanly if it reaches your
maximum charge.

### Notes

- Data comes from Transport Canada's public API (`data.tc.gc.ca`), used as published.
  Always confirm a recall on the official page before acting on it.
- The Actor reads public data only, calls the API politely and stores no personal data.
- Not affiliated with or endorsed by Transport Canada.

### Search terms

Transport Canada recalls, Canada vehicle recall database, Canadian car recall checker,
recall by make and model year, auto recall monitor, rappels de véhicules Canada,
fleet recall alerts, used car recall check Canada, vehicle safety recall dataset.

### AI transparency

The Actor performs deterministic querying, filtering and formatting. It does not call
a generative AI model. Its source and listing were prepared with AI assistance (Claude)
and verified with unit tests and live runs.

# Actor input Schema

## `makes` (type: `array`):

Every recall for these makes in the model year range, e.g. Toyota, Ford.
