## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Public Source Opportunity Monitor

Turn public HTTPS pages and JSON feeds into compact, structured snapshots for
automation and agent workflows. Add up to 20 sources, choose keywords, and get
one dataset row per source with HTTP status, content hash, keyword matches,
item count and a limited preview.

### Why use it?

- Monitor public job, bounty, changelog or payment-status feeds in one run.
- Filter noisy sources with your own keywords.
- Feed stable JSON rows into Make, Zapier, n8n, an AI agent or a scheduled task.
- Detect content changes later by comparing the SHA-256 field.
- Keep costs predictable with pay-per-source pricing.

### Input

- `sources`: 1–20 public HTTPS URLs, each with an optional title and mode.
- `keywords`: case-insensitive terms to detect.
- `previewLength`: 0–2,000 characters stored per source.
- `timeoutSeconds`: 5–60 seconds per source.

### Output

One dataset row per source:

- success/error status and HTTP code;
- final public URL and content type;
- SHA-256 content fingerprint;
- matched keywords;
- top-level item count when the response is JSON;
- bounded content preview and fetch timestamp.

### Use case

A freelancer or small agency watches a handful of public job boards, bounty lists and
changelog feeds. Schedule the Actor hourly with your keywords; compare `sha256` with the
previous run to know when a source changed, and send only matching rows to Slack or email.

### Input example

```json
{
  "sources": [
    { "title": "Squash jobs", "url": "https://app.squash.ci/jobs.json", "mode": "json" }
  ],
  "keywords": ["bounty", "python"],
  "previewLength": 300,
  "timeoutSeconds": 20
}
```

### Output sample (illustrative values)

```json
{
  "title": "Squash jobs",
  "url": "https://app.squash.ci/jobs.json",
  "ok": true,
  "statusCode": 200,
  "contentType": "application/json",
  "keywordMatches": ["bounty"],
  "itemCount": 12,
  "sha256": "9f2c...e41a",
  "preview": "[{\"id\": ...",
  "fetchedAt": "2026-10-21T12:00:00+00:00"
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.02 per source snapshot**. No monthly rental. Set a maximum cost
per run in Apify to cap spending.

### Safety and privacy

This Actor accepts only HTTPS on port 443. It blocks credentials embedded in
URLs and rejects private, local, reserved and other non-global IP addresses,
including redirect targets. Responses are capped at 1 MB.

Use only sources you are authorized to access. Do not submit private systems,
signed URLs, secrets, personal data, or pages whose terms prohibit automated
access. This Actor does not bypass authentication, robots controls, rate limits,
CAPTCHAs or technical restrictions.

### AI transparency

The Actor performs deterministic fetching, parsing, filtering and hashing. It
does not call a generative AI model and does not claim human review. Its source
and listing were prepared with AI assistance. Users must independently verify
results before making financial, legal, employment or security decisions.

### Search terms

opportunity monitor, job feed monitor, bounty feed, JSON monitor, change detection,
website change monitor, API monitoring, RSS and JSON feed checker, AI agent data.
