## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Grants.gov Scraper: Federal Grant Opportunities & Funding Alerts

Get **weekly alerts for new federal grants your organisation can apply for**. Each opportunity comes with the award ceiling and floor, estimated total funding, number of awards, eligible applicant types and deadlines, from the **official Grants.gov API**. No API key is needed.

**Use it to:**

- 🔔 **Get a weekly grant alert for your nonprofit.** For example, health grants (`HL`) open to 501(c)(3)s (`12`), delivered to your inbox or Slack.
- ✍️ **Support grant-writing consultants** by tracking new and forecast opportunities across all your clients, using one State key per client.
- 🎓 **Track funding from specific agencies** such as NSF, NIH or DOE for a university research office.
- 📊 **Build a funding database** in Google Sheets or Airtable with Apify integrations.

**Why this Actor:**

- A forecast that later becomes a posted opportunity is flagged as new, so you can start preparing early.
- Grants.gov's test records are filtered out.
- Agency contact details are removed.

### How much does it cost?

You pay per event: a small fee per run start plus a fee per result. A daily alert that returns 20 new items costs only cents per day. Use `maxResults` or the run's *Max total charge* to cap spend.

### Example inputs

Everything posted in the last 7 days, with details:

```json
{ "postedWithinDays": 7 }
```

Health grants open to nonprofits:

```json
{ "fundingCategories": ["HL"], "eligibilities": ["12"], "statuses": ["posted"] }
```

Keyword search for one agency, fast mode without details:

```json
{ "keyword": "climate resilience", "agencies": ["DOC"], "includeDetails": false }
```

### Output (one row per opportunity)

`opportunityId, opportunityNumber, title, agencyCode, agencyName, status, docType, openDate, closeDate, assistanceListings, url`, plus, with `includeDetails`: `description, estimatedTotalFunding, awardCeiling, awardFloor, expectedNumberOfAwards, costSharing, eligibleApplicants, eligibilityNotes, fundingInstruments, fundingCategories, lastUpdated`

Agency contact names, emails and phone numbers are removed.

### Notes

- `postedWithinDays` is rounded up to Grants.gov's windows: 3, 7, 14, 21 ... 56 days.
- Grants.gov's own test-agency placeholder records are skipped by default.
- Pricing: pay per event, a small fee per run start plus a fee per opportunity.
