## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

## MedEx Medicine Scraper — Bangladesh Pharmacy Data

> Scrape allopathic medicine data from MedEx (medex.com.bd), Bangladesh's leading medicine database. Get brand names, strengths, dosage forms, and direct URLs for 2,900+ medicines — perfect for pharmacy POS systems and healthcare applications.

### What It Does

This Actor scrapes the MedEx Bangladesh medicine database using their AJAX search API. It searches for all single-letter (a-z) and two-letter (aa-zz) combinations to discover every medicine brand, then deduplicates by brand ID.

### Output Data

Each medicine record contains:

| Field | Description | Example |
|-------|-------------|---------|
| `brand_name` | Medicine brand name | "Napa" |
| `strength` | Dosage strength | "500 mg" |
| `dosage_form` | Form of medicine | "Tablet" |
| `brand_id` | MedEx internal ID | "10452" |
| `url` | Direct link to medicine page | "https://medex.com.bd/brands/10452/napa-500-mg-tablet" |

### Sample Output

```json
{
  "brand_name": "Napa",
  "strength": "500 mg",
  "dosage_form": "Tablet",
  "brand_id": "10452",
  "url": "https://medex.com.bd/brands/10452/napa-500-mg-tablet"
}
```

### Coverage

- **2,900+ unique medicine brands**
- **96+ dosage forms** including:
  - Tablet, Capsule, Syrup, Injection, Cream
  - Ophthalmic Solution, Suppository, Inhaler
  - Powder for Suspension, Oral Solution, IV Infusion
  - And many more

### Input

```json
{
  "searchDepth": 2,
  "maxResults": 0,
  "requestDelayMs": 200
}
```

| Parameter | Default | Description |
|-----------|---------|-------------|
| `searchDepth` | 2 | 1 = single-letter search (~280 brands). 2 = two-letter combos (~2900 brands). |
| `maxResults` | 0 | Max brands to scrape. 0 = no limit. |
| `requestDelayMs` | 200 | Delay between requests. |

### Use Cases

- **Pharmacy POS system setup** — Populate your medicine database with brand names and strengths
- **Inventory management** — Match medicine names to inventory SKUs
- **Healthcare apps** — Build a medicine lookup or drug interaction checker
- **Medical research** — Analyze the Bangladesh pharmaceutical market
- **Drug database population** — Seed your database with real medicine data

### Pricing

**Pay-per-event: $0.01 per 100 brands scraped** (`brands-scraped` event)
