## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Podcast Guest Booking Leads - Interview Shows + Host Emails

**Find podcasts to pitch as a guest.** Give it topics; get back **active interview podcasts that
regularly book guests**, each with the **host / booking email**, the **guests they had
recently**, how often they publish and when the last episode came out.

Built for **podcast guesting, PR agencies, podcast booking services, authors, coaches and
founders** doing a podcast tour. Keywords: podcast guest finder, podcast booking, podcast guest
list, interview podcasts, podcast host email, podcast outreach, podcast pitching, be a podcast
guest, podcast PR.

### Why this beats a plain podcast list

A podcast directory gives you every show on a topic. Most of them never take guests, and about
**40% haven't published in a month**. This Actor reads each show's recent episodes and keeps
only the ones worth pitching:

- **Books guests** — share of recent episodes that are interviews (titles like "… with Jane Doe",
  descriptions like "my guest today", "joined by", "sits down with").
- **Still active** — latest episode within your window (default 60 days).
- **Reachable** — host email from the RSS feed (`itunes:owner`), which Apple requires.

**You only pay for shows that pass all three.**

### Use cases

- **Podcast guesting / podcast tours** — a ready pitch list for an author, founder or expert.
- **PR and booking agencies** — fresh lists per client topic, re-run monthly.
- **Personalised pitches** — `recentGuests` and `recentGuestEpisodes` show who the host
  interviews, so you can reference a recent episode and pitch a fitting angle.
- **Prioritising outreach** — sort by `episodesLast90Days` or `guestEpisodeShare` to start with
  the busiest interview shows.

### How to use

1. Enter the **topics** your guest can speak on, e.g. `saas marketing`, `leadership`.
2. Keep the defaults (active in the last 60 days, ≥30% guest episodes, email required) or
   loosen them.
3. Click **Start**. 100 shows per topic are checked in under a minute.
4. Export to **CSV / Excel** for your CRM or outreach tool, or pull it via the Apify API.

### Output (one item per show)

```json
{
  "name": "Social Media Marketing Podcast",
  "ownerEmail": "m***@socialmediaexaminer.com",
  "ownerName": "Michael Stelzner, Social Media Examiner",
  "website": "https://www.socialmediaexaminer.com",
  "guestEpisodeShare": 1,
  "recentGuests": ["Elizabeth Marberry", "Adam Ivy", "Shannon McKinstrie", "Tara Zirker", "Derral Eves"],
  "recentGuestEpisodes": [
    "Making Instagram Reels Easier, Faster & Scalable",
    "YouTube Retention Strategy: How to Hook, Hold, and Convert Viewers",
    "How to Use AI on LinkedIn While Sounding Human"
  ],
  "lastEpisodeDate": "2026-10-15T09:30:00+00:00",
  "daysSinceLastEpisode": 0,
  "episodesLast90Days": 12,
  "avgEpisodeMinutes": 45,
  "genre": "Marketing",
  "episodeCount": 763,
  "itunesUrl": "https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/social-media-marketing-podcast/id549899114",
  "feedUrl": "https://rss.art19.com/social-media-marketing-podcast",
  "sourceTerm": "marketing"
}
```

(Real run output; the email is masked here, the dataset contains the full address.)

### Input

| field | meaning |
|---|---|
| `searchTerms` | topics your guest speaks on |
| `itunesIds` / `feedUrls` | check specific shows directly |
| `country` | Apple Podcasts storefront (US, GB, CA, AU, …) |
| `maxPerTerm` | shows checked per topic before filtering (default 100, max 200) |
| `activeWithinDays` | latest episode at most this old (0 = off) |
| `minGuestEpisodeShare` | 0–1, share of recent episodes with a guest (0 = keep all) |
| `requireEmail` | only shows exposing a host email (default on) |
| `episodesToScan` | recent episodes analysed per show |

### Pricing (pay per event)

| event | price | when |
|---|---|---|
| `podcast-lead` | $0.05 | per show returned — active, books guests, has an email |

Shows that are filtered out are free. Typically 5–15% of the shows on a topic pass, so one
topic gives you roughly 5–15 qualified leads (≈ $0.25–0.75).

### FAQ

**Where do the emails come from?**
From each podcast's public RSS feed. Apple Podcasts requires an owner email
(`itunes:owner`) in every feed; some hosting platforms hide it, and those shows are skipped when
`requireEmail` is on.

**How is "books guests" detected?**
From the titles and descriptions of the latest episodes (default 12). Shows that only introduce
guests in the audio can score low — lower `minGuestEpisodeShare` to include them.

**Are the guest names exact?**
They are extracted from text and are best-effort; occasionally a phrase that looks like a name
slips in. The episode titles in `recentGuestEpisodes` are always verbatim.

**Do I need a proxy or an account?**
No. Data comes from the public Apple Podcasts search API and each show's RSS feed.

**Can I get every podcast with an email, not just interview shows?**
Use [Podcast Email Scraper](https://apify.com/ritaya/podcast-email-scraper), or set
`minGuestEpisodeShare` to 0 here.

**Can I automate it?**
Yes — schedule it monthly, or call it from the Apify API, Make, Zapier, n8n or an AI agent via
the Apify MCP server.
