## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

## StepStone Jobs Scraper

Apify actor that scrapes job listings from StepStone.de, Germany's largest job board, by keyword and location — no login, no API key, no headless browser.

### How it works

- Fetches the StepStone search results page (`https://www.stepstone.de/jobs/<query>/in-<location>`) for the given `query` and `location`, paginating with `?page=N`.
- The list page is plain server-rendered HTML with a JSON array of job records embedded directly in it — the actor extracts that array without any JS execution.
- For each job on the list, the actor also fetches the job's own detail page and reads its `schema.org/JobPosting` JSON-LD block to fill in `employmentType` and, when available, a disclosed salary.
- Stops after pushing `maxItems` jobs (default 30) or when StepStone runs out of results for the query.
- For every successfully pushed record the actor charges the `job-scraped` event (`$0.008` per record).
- A short delay is kept between requests to be polite to the source and to reduce proxy-ban risk.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | Description |
|-------|------|---------|-------------|
| `query` | string | `"Softwareentwickler"` | Job title or keyword to search for on StepStone.de. |
| `location` | string | `""` | City or region to filter by. Leave empty to search all of Germany. |
| `maxItems` | integer | 30 | Maximum number of job listings to return. |
| `proxyConfiguration` | object | Apify residential proxy | Proxy configuration used for all requests. |

All fields have editors and working defaults, as required by the platform — running the actor with no input at all returns real job listings.

### Output

Each record contains:

- `jobId` – integer
- `title` – string
- `companyName` – string
- `companyUrl` – string | null
- `location` – string (may list several cities for multi-location postings)
- `salary` – string | null (Germany rarely discloses salary in listings, so this is `null` most of the time)
- `employmentType` – string | null, e.g. `FULL_TIME`, `PART_TIME`, `CONTRACTOR`, `INTERN` (schema.org JobPosting values)
- `datePosted` – ISO-8601 string | null
- `url` – absolute link to the job posting
- `scrapedAt` – ISO-8601 timestamp of when the record was processed

### Example

```json
{
  "query": "Data Engineer",
  "location": "Berlin",
  "maxItems": 50
}
```

Returns up to 50 Data Engineer listings in Berlin.

### Notes

- Job detail pages sometimes disappear between the list page render and the actor's follow-up request (already-filled or delisted positions). Those are not treated as a source block — the actor logs a warning and falls back to the fields already known from the list page.
- The actor distinguishes a genuine zero-result search (StepStone reports a total count of 0) from an anti-bot block (missing expected page markers or a 403/429/5xx status), and only fails the run in the latter case.
- Network errors and rate-limit responses are retried with exponential backoff (up to 3 attempts) before the run fails.

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("rocketapi/stepstone-jobs").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
