## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Product Hunt Launches Scraper

Get every day's top Product Hunt launches as a spreadsheet, JSON or API feed. Each launch comes with its upvotes, rank, comments, topics and, optionally, the product website. Runs take seconds and cost $1.50 per 1,000 launches.

### What you can use it for

- **Lead lists of new SaaS.** Every day's launches with their websites, ready for outreach or CRM import.
- **Competitor and market tracking.** See which launches hit the top in your category (AI, developer tools, marketing) each week.
- **Launch benchmarks.** Find out how many upvotes it took to reach #1, #5 or #10 on any day before you launch.
- **Daily feed for newsletters, Slack or n8n.** Schedule it with no dates and each run adds yesterday's leaderboard.
- **AI agents.** Call it as a tool through Apify MCP to answer questions like "What launched on Product Hunt this week?".

### How it works

Pick a daily, weekly or monthly leaderboard and a date range. Turn on **Include product details** to add the product website, description, review rating, review count and followers.

Each leaderboard page returns the featured launches Product Hunt shows on it, usually the top ~20 per day. It uses plain HTTP with no browser, so runs are fast and cheap.

### Input

| Field | Type | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| `period` | string | Which leaderboard to read. | "daily" |
| `startDate` | string | First day to cover (YYYY-MM-DD). Defaults to the end date. | |
| `endDate` | string | Last day to cover (YYYY-MM-DD). Defaults to yesterday. | |
| `includeDetails` | boolean | Also open each product page for website, description, rating, reviews and followers (one extra request per launch). | false |
| `maxResults` | integer | Stop after this many launches. 0 means no limit. You are charged per launch. | 100 |
| `proxyConfiguration` | object | Product Hunt blocks unproxied cloud traffic; the Apify datacenter proxy works. | {"useApifyProxy":true} |

### Output

### Pricing

Pay per result: **$1.50 per 1,000 results**. You are charged once per item in the dataset (event `result`), plus Apify's small per-run start fee. Platform compute is included.
Set **Max results** or a maximum run cost to cap spend; the Actor stops cleanly when either is reached.

### FAQ

#### How many launches do I get per day?

The launches Product Hunt shows on that leaderboard page, usually the top 17-20 featured launches per page. For a full month of daily launches, set a date range: each day is one page.

#### Do I need a proxy?

Keep the default Apify datacenter proxy on. Product Hunt's Cloudflare blocks unproxied cloud traffic; the Actor retries blocked requests on fresh IPs automatically.

#### Can I run it every day?

Yes. Schedule it with no dates: it defaults to yesterday's leaderboard, so each run adds one day.

#### Is scraping Product Hunt allowed?

The Actor reads only public pages and does not log in or collect personal data beyond what Product Hunt shows publicly. Check that your use complies with Product Hunt's terms and the laws that apply to you.

### Reliability

Runs that return no data, mostly incomplete items, or mostly failed requests are marked **FAILED** with a reason instead of succeeding with an empty dataset. Each run stores a `RUN_SUMMARY` record in its key-value store.
