## Pricing

$20.00 / 1,000 agency checks

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Nepal Trekking Agency License Check

Checks whether a Nepal trekking/travel agency is a current **TAAN (Trekking Agencies' Association of
Nepal) General Member**, using TAAN's own public member directory (https://www.taan.org.np/members).
Built for travelers, booking platforms and trek-planning tools that want a quick, structured signal
before paying a deposit to an unfamiliar agency — trekking-agency registration scams are a known
problem for visitors to Nepal, and no existing Apify actor covers this niche (checked 2026-09-28).

Prefer to look one agency up by hand? The same directory is free to search at
https://nepaltrekcheck.com/agencies/, with a website check for each agency and a trek quote checker.

### Input

- `agencyName` (string) — a single agency name to check, OR
- `agencyNames` (array of strings) — check several names in one run.
- `maxMatches` (integer, default 5) — how many directory matches to return per queried name; the closest
  match is enriched with full registry details.

### Output (one dataset item per queried name)

- `verified` — `true` if a matching TAAN General Member was found.
- `best` — for a match: TAAN member ID, registered organization name, registration number, address,
  country, website, and the TAAN profile URL (no email or phone numbers, by design — use the TAAN
  profile to contact an agency).
- `otherMatches` — any additional name matches found, for disambiguation.
- `note` — plain-English caveat (see Limits below).
- `source`, `checkedAt` — provenance.

### Honest limits

- Covers TAAN's **General Members** category only (~2,334 agencies) — not Associate or Regional
  Association members, and not the Department of Tourism's own trekking-license register (no public
  online copy of that register was found as of 2026-09-28).
- TAAN membership is a strong signal of a genuine, established agency, but membership and an active
  Dept. of Tourism trekking license are two different records — this tool checks the former only.
- Matching is on the organization name as TAAN lists it; spelling variants may not match.
- A "not found" result does not prove an agency is unlicensed — verify directly with TAAN or the Dept.
  of Tourism before relying on this for anything high-stakes.

### Price

Pay-per-result on the Apify Store — priced inside Apify's normal per-event range for a lookup/
verification actor (see the store listing for the current price).

### Data & compliance

Reads only TAAN's public member directory (robots.txt allows all crawlers as of 2026-09-28, checked
before building this). No login, no personal-individual data — only organization-level registration
details already published by TAAN for its member businesses. One search request plus (for the closest
match) one detail-page request per queried name, spaced out — no bulk crawling of the full directory.

# Actor input Schema

## `agencyName` (type: `string`):

The trekking/travel agency name to check against TAAN's public member directory.

## `agencyNames` (type: `array`):

Check several agency names in one run instead of a single agencyName.

## `maxMatches` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of TAAN directory matches to return per queried name (the closest match is enriched with full details).

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "agencyNames": [
    "Amazing Himalaya Trekking"
  ],
  "maxMatches": 5
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per agency checked: whether it is a current TAAN General Member, the matched directory entry and how the match was made.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "agencyNames": [
        "Amazing Himalaya Trekking"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("rounded_narcissus/nepal-trekking-license-check").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
