## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News Scraper & Monitor – Only New Articles

Get Google News articles for any search or topic, in any country and language: headline, source, publish time, the Google News link and the real article URL on the publisher's site.
Turn on **monitor mode** and schedule the Actor (hourly or daily) to get only the articles you have not seen yet, ready for a spreadsheet, Slack alert, CRM or AI agent.
Built for PR and brand monitoring, competitor and market news, investors and traders, journalists and researchers.

### What you get

- **One row per article**: title, source name and home page, publish time (ISO, UTC), position in Google News, the Google News link and the publisher URL.
- **Search queries with Google News operators**: `"exact phrase"`, `-exclude`, `site:reuters.com`, `intitle:merger`, `OR`.
- **Topic headlines**: top stories, world, nation, business, technology, entertainment, sports, science, health.
- **Any edition**: `US:en`, `GB:en`, `IN:en`, `DE:de`, `FR:fr`, `BR:pt-419`, `JP:ja`, `NO:no` and every other Google News edition.
- **Time filter**: past hour, 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.
- **Monitor mode (`onlyNew`)**: returns only articles that earlier runs did not return, so a scheduled run gives you a clean stream of new articles and you pay only for those.

### Example output row

A real row from a run with the default input (ids shortened):

```json
{
  "query": "OpenAI",
  "topic": null,
  "position": 1,
  "article_id": "CBMilAFBVV95cUxPSFJIMFZPVi1xNjBnTXdHUjBMSW56OFVoQWxYRjBSUHh2V1cw...",
  "title": "OpenAI sued by 8 states over ChatGPT safety concerns",
}
```

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `queries` | Search terms, up to 100 per run. Google News operators work. |
| `topics` | Optional headline sections: `TOP_STORIES`, `WORLD`, `NATION`, `BUSINESS`, `TECHNOLOGY`, `ENTERTAINMENT`, `SPORTS`, `SCIENCE`, `HEALTH`. |
| `edition` | `country:language`, default `US:en`. |
| `timeRange` | `any`, `past_hour`, `past_24_hours` (default), `past_7_days`, `past_30_days`. Applies to queries. |
| `maxArticlesPerFeed` | Up to 100 per query or topic (Google News' own maximum). |
| `onlyNew` | Monitor mode: skip articles earlier runs already returned. |
| `resolveUrls` | Turn Google News links into publisher URLs (default on, no extra charge). |

### Monitor mode, step by step

1. Enter your queries (for example your brand, competitors and market terms) and set `onlyNew` to on.
2. Save it as a task and add a schedule, for example every hour.
3. Each run returns only new articles. Connect the dataset to Slack, email, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make or a webhook to get alerts.

Monitor mode remembers article ids per query, edition and time range in a key-value store named `google-news-monitor-seen` in your own Apify account (newest 3,000 per query). Delete that store to start fresh.

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription:

- **$2 per 1,000 articles** ($0.002 each) from 30 October 2026; $1 per 1,000 until then. Publisher URL resolving is included.
- $0.001 per run start.

Examples (from 30 October 2026): 100 articles cost $0.201. An hourly monitor that finds 20 new articles a day costs about $1.90 a month.

You can cap the cost of a run with the maximum charge setting; the Actor stops when the budget is used. Error rows are never charged.

### Good to know

- In our test runs from Apify's servers, 100 % of articles came back with the publisher URL.

- The data comes from Google News' public RSS feeds. Google returns at most about 100 articles per query or topic; use narrower queries or shorter time ranges for more coverage.

- `url` is null when Google does not hand out the publisher link for an article; `google_news_url` always works and redirects to the article.

- Topic headlines are always current; `timeRange` applies to search queries.

- No login, cookies or personal data. Article text is not copied; you get the headline, metadata and links.

## `topics` (type: `array`):

Google News headline sections for the chosen edition. Optional, in addition to the queries.

## `edition` (type: `string`):

Which Google News edition to read, as country:language: US:en, GB:en, IN:en, DE:de, FR:fr, ES:es, BR:pt-419, JP:ja, NO:no ...

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Only articles published in this period (applies to search queries; topic headlines are always current).

## `maxArticlesPerFeed` (type: `integer`):

Google News returns up to 100 articles per query or topic, newest first for short time ranges.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Return only articles that earlier runs with the same query, edition and time range did not return. Schedule the Actor (e.g. hourly) to get a clean feed of new articles; you pay only for new ones. Seen article ids are kept in a key-value store named google-news-monitor-seen in your account.

## `resolveUrls` (type: `boolean`):

Turn Google News links into the real article URL on the publisher's site (url field). If Google does not give it, url is null and google_news_url still works. No extra charge.
