## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Search Results API (SERP) – Rank Tracker

Get Google search results as clean JSON for any query, country, city, language and device: organic results, ads, featured snippet, People Also Ask, related searches, AI overview and local pack.
Add your domain and every row tells you where you rank, so a daily schedule turns this into a rank tracker.
Built for SEO teams, agencies, AI agents and anyone who needs Google results in a pipeline.
The results come from a licensed SERP data provider (DataForSEO), not from our own scraping, so runs do not fail on captchas or blocks.

### What you get

- **One row per search** with `organic_results` (position, title, URL, domain, description), `paid_results`, `featured_snippet`, `people_also_ask`, `related_searches`, `ai_overview` (when Google sends the text with the page), `local_pack` (business name, site and rating) and the list of `serp_features` on the page.
- **Rank tracking**: set `targetDomain` and get `target_position` and `target_url` in every row (subdomains count; `null` = not in the results).
- **Any market**: country, region or city (`New York,New York,United States`), any language, desktop or mobile.
- **Up to 100 organic results** per query, up to 1,000 queries per run.

### Example output row

A real row from a run with the default input (two of the seven organic results shown):

```json
{
  "query": "web scraping api",
  "organic_results": [
    {
      "position": 1,
      "rank_absolute": 2,
  ],
  "organic_count": 7,
  "paid_results": [],
  "featured_snippet": null,
  "people_also_ask": [],
  "related_searches": ["Web scraping api free", "Web scraping api python", "Web scraping api javascript"],
  "ai_overview": null,
  "location": "United States",
  "language": "English",
  "device": "desktop",
  "checked_at": "2026-10-15T07:43:43+00:00"
}
```

With `targetDomain` set, the row also has `target_domain`, `target_position` and `target_url`.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `queries` | Search terms, up to 1,000 per run. Google operators work. |
| `location` | Country, region or city as Google names it. Default `United States`. |
| `language` | `English`, `German`, `French` ... Empty = the location's default. |
| `device` | `desktop` or `mobile`. |
| `resultsPerQuery` | Organic results per query: 10 (first page) up to 100. |
| `targetDomain` | Optional domain to track, e.g. `example.com`. |

### Speed

Runs with up to 3 queries are answered live in a few seconds (good for AI agents and quick checks). Bigger runs use the provider's standard queue: results usually arrive within 1–2 minutes, for the same price.

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription:

- **$3 per 1,000 searches** ($0.003 per Google results page of up to 10 organic results, with all SERP features). 100 results for one query = 10 pages.
- $0.001 per run start.
- Failed searches are free.

Examples: one query costs $0.004. 1,000 queries (first page) cost $3.00. A daily rank check of 50 keywords costs about $4.50 a month.

**Try it for $0.001:** the pre-filled example is answered from a saved snapshot of a real search (rows carry `from_snapshot: true`) and costs only the run start. Change anything and the search runs live.

**Free Apify plan:** the pre-filled example works on any plan. Live searches need a paid Apify plan (any plan), because each one costs real money at the data provider; on the free plan the run returns a `paid_plan_required` row and charges nothing beyond the start.

You can cap the cost of a run with the maximum charge setting. The Actor only starts as many searches as your budget can pay for.

### Good to know

- `position` counts organic results only; `rank_absolute` counts every block on the page (ads, maps, videos ...).
- Google loads most AI overviews after the page; then `ai_overview` is `null` and `serp_features` still lists `ai_overview`.
- Phone numbers and addresses from the local pack are left out on purpose.
- Error rows carry `error` and `errorMessage` and are never charged.
