## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Instagram Followers & Following Scraper

Export who follows a public Instagram profile, or who it follows: username, name, profile picture, verified and private.

**$0.30 per 1,000 accounts.**

### What it's for

- **Influencer vetting**: who a creator's audience really is, and which brands and creators they follow.
- **Competitor research**: the accounts a competitor follows and the people who follow them.
- **Lead lists and outreach**: usernames ready for CSV, Excel or your CRM.
- **Data for AI agents and dashboards**: clean JSON, or straight from the API.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `usernames` | Usernames or profile URLs, one per line |
| `dataToScrape` | `followers` or `following` |
| `resultsLimit` | Accounts per profile (default 1,000) |

Coming from Apify's Instagram Followers and Following Scraper? These are its input field names, and the output keeps its fields too.

### Output

One row per account:

```json
{
  "sourceUsername": "natgeo",
  "userId": "15473083628",
  "username": "natgeodocs",
  "fullName": "Nat Geo Documentary Films",
  "profilePicUrl": "https://scontent-lga3-2.cdninstagram.com/v/...",
  "isVerified": true,
  "isPrivate": false,
  "type": "FOLLOWING"
}
```

Profiles that can't be read get a row with the reason, free of charge:

```json
{ "input": "some_private_profile", "error": "Private profile" }
```

### Price

- **$0.30 per 1,000 accounts**
- **$0.002 per profile** that returns accounts
- Private, missing or invalid profiles: free

| Run | Cost |
|---|---|
| 10 profiles, 1,000 accounts each | $3.02 |
| 1 profile, 20,000 accounts | $6.00 |

A run stops at the maximum cost you set for it. On Apify's free plan, a run returns up to 100 accounts.

### FAQ

**Can it get every follower of a big account?**
Not of verified and some very large accounts: Instagram shows only their first ~50 followers to anyone outside the account, and every scraper hits the same wall. The run tells you which profiles were cut short, and you pay only for what comes back. Following lists come out complete, whatever the size.

**In what order do accounts come?**
Instagram's own order: for followers, usually the most recent first.

**Does it work with private accounts?**
No. Only public profiles.

**Is it legal?**
It reads only public profiles. Usernames and names are personal data under GDPR and similar laws: use them for a legitimate purpose and honor deletion requests.
