## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Instagram Reel Scraper

Get the reels of any public Instagram profile, or single reels by URL: plays, likes, comments, shares, saves, length, caption, hashtags, music, collaborators and video links.

**$0.30 per 1,000 reels.** Shares and saves are included.

### What it's for

- **Creator and competitor tracking**: plays and engagement of every reel, on a schedule with *Only reels newer than* set to `1 day`.
- **Trend and audio research**: the sounds, hashtags and formats that get plays in a niche.
- **Campaign reports**: paid partnerships, sponsors and collaborators come with each reel.
- **Data for AI agents and dashboards**: clean JSON, CSV or Excel, or straight from the API.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `username` | Usernames, profile URLs or reel URLs, one per line |
| `resultsLimit` | Reels per profile, newest first (default 20) |
| `onlyPostsNewerThan` | A date like `2026-09-01`, or a period like `7 days` |
| `skipPinnedPosts` | Leave out pinned reels, which stay on top however old they are |

Coming from another Instagram scraper? These are the field names of Apify's Instagram Reel Scraper, and so are the output fields (`shortCode`, `videoPlayCount`, `likesCount`, `ownerUsername`…). Saved inputs, API calls and integrations keep working.

### Output

One row per reel:

```json
{
  "ownerUsername": "natgeo",
  "ownerFullName": "National Geographic"
}
```

`likesCount` is `null` when the author hides likes.

Profiles and URLs that can't be read get a row with the reason, free of charge:

```json
{ "input": "some_private_account", "error": "Private profile" }
```

### Price

- **$0.30 per 1,000 reels**
- **$0.002 per profile or reel URL** that returns reels
- Private, missing or invalid inputs: free

| Run | Cost |
|---|---|
| 100 profiles, 20 reels each | $0.80 |
| 1 profile, 1,000 reels | $0.30 |
| 500 reel URLs | $1.15 |

A run stops at the maximum cost you set for it. On Apify's free plan, a run returns up to 100 reels.

### FAQ

**Does it work with private profiles?**
No. Only public profiles and reels.

**How far back does it go?**
As far as the profile goes. Raise *Reels per profile*, or set *Only reels newer than* to stop at a date.

**Why do some old reels come first?**
They're pinned. Turn on *Skip pinned reels* to leave them out; the date filter already ignores them.

**Does it download the videos or transcribe them?**
No. `videoUrl` links to the video file. Instagram's links stop working after about a day, so download what you need soon after the run.

**Is it legal?**
It reads only public profiles and reels. Captions and usernames can be personal data under GDPR and similar laws: use them for a legitimate purpose and honor deletion requests.

## `onlyPostsNewerThan` (type: `string`):

A date, or a period like 7 days for scheduled runs. UTC.

## `skipPinnedPosts` (type: `boolean`):

Pinned reels stay on top of a profile however old they are.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "username": [
    "natgeo"
  ],
  "resultsLimit": 20,
  "skipPinnedPosts": false
}
```
