## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Instagram Scraper

One actor for public Instagram data: posts, reels, comments and mentions, or the details of profiles, hashtags and places. Paste URLs, or search for hashtags, profiles or places.

**$0.30 per 1,000 posts.** Comments $0.40 per 1,000.

### What it's for

- **Competitor and creator tracking**: every new post with its engagement, on a schedule with *Only posts newer than* set to `1 day`.
- **Brand monitoring**: posts that tag a brand (*Mentions*), posts under its hashtags, comments on its campaigns.
- **Local research**: what people post from a venue, a store or a neighborhood (place URLs).
- **Data for AI agents and dashboards**: clean JSON, CSV or Excel, or straight from the API.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `directUrls` | Profile, post, reel, hashtag or place URLs, one per line |
| `resultsType` | `posts`, `reels`, `comments`, `mentions` or `details` |
| `resultsLimit` | Results per URL (default 20) |
| `onlyPostsNewerThan` | A date like `2026-09-01`, or a period like `7 days` |
| `skipPinnedPosts` | Leave out pinned posts, which stay on top however old they are |
| `search` | Instead of URLs: words to search for, separated by commas |
| `searchType` | `hashtag`, `profile` or `place` |
| `searchLimit` | Hashtags, profiles or places taken from each search (default 10) |

What each URL gives:

| URL | posts | reels | comments | mentions | details |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Profile `instagram.com/natgeo/` (or its ID) | latest posts | Reels tab | – | posts it's tagged in | profile |
| Post or reel `instagram.com/p/…` | the post | the reel | its comments | – | the post |
| Hashtag `instagram.com/explore/tags/travel/` | latest posts | top reels | – | – | post count and related hashtags |
| Place `instagram.com/explore/locations/218622660/` | latest posts | latest reels | – | – | address, phone, website, coordinates |

A search finds hashtags, profiles or places, and each one found is read as if its URL had been pasted: its posts, or its details.

Coming from Apify's Instagram Scraper? These are its input field names, and the output keeps its fields too (`shortCode`, `likesCount`, `videoPlayCount`, `followersCount`…). Saved inputs, API calls and integrations keep working.

### Price

- **$0.30 per 1,000 posts, reels or mentions**
- **$0.40 per 1,000 comments**
- **$2 per 1,000 profile, hashtag or place details**
- **$0.002 per URL** (or profile, hashtag or place found by a search) that returns posts or comments
- URLs with nothing to return: free

| Run | Cost |
|---|---|
| 10 profiles, 100 posts each | $0.32 |
| 1 post, 1,000 comments | $0.40 |
| Details of 500 profiles | $1.00 |

A run stops at the maximum cost you set for it. On Apify's free plan, a run returns up to 100 posts or comments, or 10 details.

### FAQ

**Where are a profile's latest posts in its details?**
Details carry the profile alone. Pick *Posts* for its posts: 100 of them cost $0.032.

**Can I get emails, phone numbers and engagement rates?**
[Instagram Influencer Scraper](https://apify.com/rowfinch/instagram-influencer-scraper) adds public contacts, average likes, engagement rate and paid partnerships to each profile.

**How do I get comment replies, or a hashtag's top posts?**
[Instagram Comment Scraper](https://apify.com/rowfinch/instagram-comment-scraper) reads replies too, and [Instagram Hashtag Scraper](https://apify.com/rowfinch/instagram-hashtag-scraper) reads a hashtag's top posts besides the latest.

**How does place search work?**
Like Instagram's own: it matches place names anywhere in the world, so search for a venue or a store by name (`Lucerna Music Bar`). A business type plus a city (`vintage shop copenhagen`) brings places with that name everywhere.

**Can I scrape stories or private profiles?**
No. Only public posts, reels, comments and profiles.

**Is it legal?**
It reads only public data. Captions, comments and usernames can be personal data under GDPR and similar laws: use them for a legitimate purpose and honor deletion requests.
