## Pricing

from $1.00 / 1,000 repositories

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## GitHub Repository Scraper

Search GitHub repositories and export **stars, forks, open issues, language, topics, license, creation date and last push** for each one, using GitHub's official API. Find **trending repositories** by language, or look up specific repos.

### What can this GitHub scraper do?

- 🔎 **Full GitHub search syntax.** `web scraper language:python stars:>1000`, `topic:llm pushed:>2026-10-01`, and anything else GitHub search supports.
- 🔥 **Trending repositories.** The most-starred new repositories per language over the last N days.
- 📦 **Specific repositories.** Paste `owner/repo` or GitHub URLs to get current stats.
- ⚡ **Official API.** Reliable, structured data with no page scraping.

### Who uses it?

- **Developers and investors** spotting fast-growing open-source projects.
- **Developer-tools companies** mapping an ecosystem or finding integration targets.
- **Researchers** building datasets of repositories.

### How to scrape GitHub repositories

1. Add **search queries**, **trending languages** (or `any`), and/or **repositories**.
2. Set **Max results per search** and **Sort searches by**.
3. Optionally add a **GitHub token** for higher limits.
4. Click **Start** and download the results.

### Input example

```json
{
    "searchQueries": ["topic:llm stars:>500"],
    "trendingLanguages": ["python", "typescript", "any"],
    "trendingDays": 7,
    "trendingMinStars": 20,
    "repoUrls": ["https://github.com/apify/crawlee"],
    "maxResultsPerQuery": 100
}
```

### Output example

```json
{
    "resultType": "repository",
    "query": "scraper language:python",
    "fullName": "unclecode/crawl4ai",
    "description": "Open-source web crawler and scraper for LLMs and AI agents: any website into clean, LLM-ready Markdown.",
    "url": "https://github.com/unclecode/crawl4ai",
    "stars": 86619,
    "forks": 9014,
    "openIssues": 301,
    "language": "Python",
    "topics": ["ai", "ai-agents", "crawler", "data-extraction"],
    "license": "Apache-2.0",
    "createdAt": "2024-05-09T09:48:50Z",
    "pushedAt": "2026-10-30T15:02:02Z",
    "isFork": false,
    "isArchived": false
}
```

### Use it from AI agents (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor)

AI assistants can run this Actor as a tool through [Apify's MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/platform/integrations/mcp). Add this server URL to any MCP client:

```
https://mcp.apify.com?tools=rsiddiq95/github-repo-scraper
```

Then just ask, for example: *"Find the most-starred GitHub repositories about web scraping created this year."* Agent runs cost the same per result as runs from the console.

### How much does it cost?

Pay per repository collected. See the **Pricing** tab. Searches that fail or find nothing are free.

### Limits

- GitHub returns at most **1,000 results per search**. Split big searches with filters like `created:` or `stars:` ranges.
- Without a token GitHub allows 10 searches a minute and 60 repository lookups an hour, so the Actor paces itself. A free personal access token with no permissions raises this to 30 searches a minute and 5,000 lookups an hour.

### FAQ

**Do I need a GitHub token?**
No. It just makes large runs faster. Create one at GitHub → Settings → Developer settings → Personal access tokens, with no scopes. It's stored encrypted.

**Something isn't working.**
Open an issue on the **Issues** tab with your input.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

GitHub repository searches, with full GitHub search syntax, for example: web scraper language:python stars:>500

## `trendingLanguages` (type: `array`):

Find the most-starred new repositories per language, for example python, typescript, rust. Use "any" for all languages.

## `trendingDays` (type: `integer`):

For trending: only repositories created within this many days.

## `trendingMinStars` (type: `integer`):

For trending: only repositories with at least this many stars.

## `repoUrls` (type: `array`):

Specific repositories as owner/repo or GitHub URLs.

## `maxResultsPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

GitHub returns at most 1,000 results per search.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Order of search results (trending is always sorted by stars).

## `githubToken` (type: `string`):

A GitHub personal access token with no scopes raises GitHub's limits (from 10 to 30 searches a minute, 60 to 5,000 repository lookups an hour). Stored encrypted.
