## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## AI Brand Visibility Tracker – ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity

More and more buyers ask **ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Claude** instead of Google: *"What is the best CRM for a small business?"*. If the AI doesn't name you, you don't exist for that buyer.

This Actor asks your customers' questions to the AI assistants and tells you, for every answer:

- **Is your brand mentioned?** At which **position** (1st, 2nd…)?
- **Which competitors** are mentioned, and in what order?
- **Which websites the AI cites** as sources — the pages to work on (GEO / AEO).
- Is **your own site** cited as a source?

Plus a **summary**: visibility %, average position, number of first places, **share of voice** against your competitors and the most cited domains, per engine and overall.

ChatGPT and Gemini answers are the **real web answers users see** (with web search); Perplexity and Claude come from their official models. Data is collected through a licensed provider (DataForSEO): no accounts, no blocks.

### Input example

```json
{
  "brand": "Pipedrive",
  "brandDomain": "pipedrive.com",
  "competitors": ["HubSpot", "Salesforce", "Zoho", "monday.com"],
  "prompts": ["What is the best CRM for a small business?", "Which CRM is best for a sales team of 10 people?"],
  "engines": ["chatgpt", "gemini", "perplexity", "claude"],
  "country": "United States"
}
```

### Real result (October 2026, shortened)

Summary for Pipedrive, 2 questions × 4 engines:

```json
{
  "type": "summary",
  "overall": {
    "answers": 8,
    "visibilityPercent": 100,
    "averagePosition": 2.1,
    "firstPlaceCount": 3,
    "brandCitedAsSourceCount": 3,
    "shareOfVoice": [
      { "brand": "HubSpot", "mentionRatePercent": 100, "shareOfVoicePercent": 20.5 },
      { "brand": "Pipedrive", "mentionRatePercent": 100, "shareOfVoicePercent": 20.5 },
      { "brand": "Salesforce", "mentionRatePercent": 75, "shareOfVoicePercent": 15.4 }
    ],
    "topCitedDomains": [{ "domain": "techradar.com", "answers": 3 }, { "domain": "pipedrive.com", "answers": 3 }]
  }
}
```

One row per answer:

```json
{
  "type": "answer", "engine": "chatgpt", "question": "Which CRM is best for a sales team of 10 people?",
  "brandMentioned": true, "brandPosition": 1,
  "brandsMentioned": [{ "brand": "Pipedrive", "position": 1 }, { "brand": "HubSpot", "position": 2 }],
  "brandCitedAsSource": true, "sourcesCount": 25, "sourceDomains": ["spotsaas.com", "decisioncircuit.com", "saascrmreview.com", "techradar.com"],
  "answer": "…full AI answer…"
}
```

### Use cases

- **Brands**: weekly AI visibility report, alert when a competitor overtakes you.
- **SEO / GEO agencies**: track dozens of clients and prompts on a schedule; show which sources to target.
- **Product marketing**: test how AI describes your category in each country and language.

Schedule it daily or weekly in Apify to build your own AI visibility history.

### Pricing

**$0.04 per AI answer** on the free plan, **$0.03** on Starter and down to **$0.025** on higher plans. One answer = one question asked to one engine, fully analysed. Failed answers are not charged; the summary is free.

Example: 20 questions × 3 engines = 60 answers = $1.80 per check.

### Apify free plan

On the **Apify free plan** you get **one free trial run** (2 AI answers) with no setup. After that, add **your own DataForSEO API login** in the "Apify free plan" section (DataForSEO gives $1 of free credit at sign‑up, about 200 AI answers), or use a paid Apify plan — no key needed and no limit. A blocked run stops immediately with a message and nothing is charged.

### Good to know

- AI answers change from one run to the next; schedule runs and compare averages rather than single answers.
- Brand detection is by name, your extra spellings and your domain (whole words, case‑insensitive).
- Claude may answer from its own knowledge without web search; the `webSearch` field says so for each answer.
