## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## New Business License & Opening Lead Radar

Find new-business prospecting signals before they become stale lead lists. This Actor monitors public business-license feeds, scores newly issued records, remembers what it has already seen, and can emit only **NEW** or **CHANGED** signals on recurring scheduled runs. It is built for B2B sales teams, agencies, local service providers, suppliers, insurers, payment providers, recruiters, and AI agents that need fresh local-business leads.

### What counts as a new-business signal

A newly issued business license can be an excellent opening or expansion signal, but it is not proof that a brand-new business opened. The Actor therefore labels the evidence honestly with `signalType` and `openingLikelihood` rather than turning every license into a false 'grand opening' claim. Temporary and special-event licenses are excluded by default so ordinary prospecting runs are not polluted by short-lived events.

### Common use cases

- Find newly issued business licenses for B2B sales leads.
- Monitor restaurants, dentists, veterinarians, retailers, salons, contractors, or other business types.
- Build a recurring local prospect feed for CRM enrichment.
- Detect changed license records without repeatedly exporting the same businesses.
- Trigger outreach research or AI-agent enrichment when a fresh business signal appears.

### Input and coverage

Filter by business keywords, ZIP prefixes, lookback window, temporary-license policy, and a persistent `stateKey`. The default source is Chicago's newly issued business-license feed. Add compatible public JSON/Socrata feeds through `sourceUrls` to cover additional jurisdictions. `maxSourceRows` caps pagination for predictable cost.

### Output

Results include change type, score, signal type, opening likelihood, business ID and name, address, city/state/ZIP, category, business activity, issue date, license status, source URL, and timestamp. The `SUMMARY` record reports source counts and truncation.

### Recurring monitoring and AI-agent use

Run on an Apify schedule with a stable state key to create a continuously refreshed business-change feed. Consume the structured dataset through Apify API, webhooks, CRM automations, spreadsheets, or AI-agent workflows. Always verify a prospect before outreach and follow applicable marketing/privacy rules.
