## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### YouTube Shorts Trending Songs & Sounds: Chart & API

See the **trending songs and sounds on YouTube Shorts today** in 22 countries + global. The Actor reads YouTube's official **Top songs on Shorts** chart (daily or weekly) and opens each song's Shorts sound page: **how many Shorts use the sound**, how fast that number grows since your last check, who made the sound and its **top Shorts**.

```json
{ "countries": ["US", "GB", "IN"], "period": "daily" }
```

No YouTube API key, no login. Use it as a **YouTube Shorts trending audio API**: one call returns clean JSON, CSV or Excel.

#### What you get

**One row per sound.** Real example, US daily chart of 22 October 2026:

| # | Song | Artists | Places up | Days on chart | Usage change | Shorts using the sound | Sound by |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | misery. | pupsies | 0 | 106 | -8.8% | 2.4M | @pupsiess |
| 2 | Oh Klahoma | Jack Stauber | +1 | 25 | -11.9% | 140K | @JackStauber |
| 3 | Bow Bow Bow | Zeddy Will | +1 | 20 | +24.6% | 44K | @zeddywill |

From the second run on, every row also shows the **change in the Shorts count** since the previous check and the **new Shorts per day**.

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `rank`, `previousRank`, `rankChange`, `isNewEntry` | Position on the chart now and in the previous day or week (+ = moved up) |
| `periodsOnChart`, `usageChangePercent` | Days (or weeks) on the chart; change in Shorts usage from the previous period |
| `title`, `artists`, `label`, `releaseDate`, `songwriters`, `producers`, `songUrl`, `thumbnail` | The song |
| `country`, `countryName`, `period`, `chartDate` | Which chart: country, daily or weekly, the last day of the chart period |
| `soundId`, `soundUrl`, `soundTitle`, `soundArtist`, `soundArtistChannelUrl`, `originalVideoUrl` | The Shorts sound page of the song and the channel behind the sound |
| `shortsCount`, `shortsCountText` | Shorts that use the sound, as YouTube shows it ("2.4M Shorts") |
| `shortsCountChange`, `shortsGrowthPerDay`, `previousCheckAt` | Growth: change since the previous check by any run, new Shorts per day |
| `topShorts` | The most popular Shorts with the sound: link, title, views |
| `chartSource` | `youtube-charts` (live), `cache` (see FAQ) or `tracked` (a sound you gave) |

#### How it works

1. Enter the countries: codes like `US`, names like `Germany`, or `global` for the worldwide chart
2. Choose **daily** (what is trending today) or **weekly**
3. Optional: **Track sounds** by link, a past **chart date**, **Only new sounds** for scheduled runs
4. Run, then download as CSV, Excel or JSON, or call it as an API

| Input | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Countries** | One or many of the 22 countries with a Shorts chart, plus global |
| **Chart period** | Daily or weekly Top songs on Shorts (50 songs each) |
| **Sounds per country** | Top N of each chart |
| **Sound stats** | On by default: Shorts count, growth, sound artist, top Shorts. Off = chart columns only |
| **Top Shorts per sound** | 0 to 15 most popular Shorts using each sound |
| **Track sounds** | Any sound page, song link or Short link: its Shorts count and growth on every run |
| **Chart date** | A past chart: daily charts since November 2023 |
| **Only new sounds** | Monitoring: later runs return only songs that were not on the chart last time |

Countries with a Shorts chart: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam, and global (worldwide). YouTube publishes no Shorts chart for other countries: use global there.

#### Why this Actor

| | |
|---|---|
| 🎵 **The official trending list** | YouTube's own Top songs on Shorts chart, the songs most used in Shorts, not a guess from a sample of videos |
| 📈 **Is the sound still growing?** | Shorts count per sound and its growth since the last check, so you jump on a sound while it rises |
| 🌍 **22 countries + global** | Compare markets in one run: the US, the UK, India, Brazil, Germany, Japan... |
| 🎬 **Top Shorts per sound** | See how creators use the sound before you make your own Short |
| 🔔 **Track your sounds** | Labels and artists: follow any sound by link, also off the chart |
| 💰 **$0.10 for a whole chart** | 50 sounds with stats, $0.002 per sound; a sound tracker on the Store charges $0.006 per Short |

#### FAQ

**Where does the list come from?** From YouTube Charts (charts.youtube.com), the "Top songs on Shorts" chart: the songs used the most in Shorts in a country on a day or in a week. The Shorts count and top Shorts come from each song's sound page on YouTube (youtube.com/source/.../shorts).

**Are the Shorts counts exact?** They are what YouTube shows on the sound page, rounded: "2.4M Shorts", "44K Shorts". Small sounds change in steps of hundreds, big ones in steps of 100K, so growth on very popular sounds shows up over days, not hours.

**How is growth measured?** Every run records the Shorts count of each sound (at most one point every 6 hours, shared by all runs). The next run compares with the newest point that is at least an hour old.

**What about original sounds that are not songs?** The chart lists songs. Any other sound (an original sound of a creator) can be followed with **Track sounds**: paste its sound page or a Short that uses it.

**What does "cache" in chartSource mean?** In October 2026 YouTube Charts refused all requests for about two weeks. If that happens again, the Actor returns the last copy of the chart it read and marks the rows `cache`; the sound stats stay live.

**How far back does history go?** Daily Shorts charts since November 2023, weekly ones longer (they end on Thursdays). The sound stats are always today's numbers.

The Actor reads only public pages that YouTube shows to any visitor at charts.youtube.com and youtube.com, without logging in, and does not download videos or audio. Use it for research, content planning and music market analysis.

# Actor input Schema

## `countries` (type: `array`):

One per line: 2-letter country codes (US, GB, IN, BR, DE...), country names (Germany) or global (worldwide chart). YouTube has a Shorts chart for 22 countries: AR, AU, BR, CA, CO, EG, FR, DE, IN, ID, JP, MX, NG, PH, SA, KR, TH, TR, AE, GB, US, VN. Other countries are skipped with a warning: use global for them.

## `period` (type: `string`):

YouTube's Top songs on Shorts chart exists as a daily and a weekly chart. Daily = the most used songs in Shorts yesterday.

## `maxSoundsPerCountry` (type: `integer`):

Top N of each country's chart (the chart has 50 songs).

## `includeSoundStats` (type: `boolean`):

Open each song's Shorts sound page: number of Shorts using the sound, its growth since the previous check, the sound's artist channel and top Shorts. Off = chart columns only (faster).

## `topShortsPerSound` (type: `integer`):

Most popular Shorts using each sound (link, title, views as YouTube rounds them). 0 = none.

## `sounds` (type: `array`):

One per line: a Shorts sound page (youtube.com/source/.../shorts), a song video link or a Short link (the Actor takes the sound of that Short). Each gives one row with the number of Shorts using the sound and its growth since your previous run.

## `date` (type: `string`):

Empty = the latest chart. A date like 2026-01-15: daily charts go back to 2023-11-06, weekly charts end on Thursdays. Sound stats are always today's.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

For scheduled runs: the first run remembers each country's chart, later runs return (and charge) only songs that were not on it last time.

## `monitorName` (type: `string`):

Name of the memory used by Only new sounds. Use a different name for each task.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many requests to YouTube run at the same time.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Requests go direct first and switch to Apify datacenter proxies when YouTube refuses them. The default works for most runs.
